Homebrew Arieran Species Details

Arierans are a race of humanoid fruits who excel at guiding adventurers through the Wilds were their race has resided for thousands of years.

Celestial Ancestry, Fey Life

While what is known of the Arierans is extremely limited, what is known is that they used to have celestial ancestry. Most believe that they were created by Chauntea, the goddess of agriculture. Even so, most arierans can speak celestial as well as common and sylvan. Now, the lands in which the arierans reside are filled with fey magic and creatures.With the combination of celestial ancestry and a life of living in fey lands, they are always a welcomed addition to an adventuring party.

Kind Guides of the Wilds

Since most arierans have lived their entire lives in the Wilds, they act as guides to any adventurers planning on exploring the area. While arierans are a kind race and typically try to help others, most require some sort of fee to help guide people. A small amount of arierans also join adventuring parties permanently, although because of their short life spans they aren't able to stick with a group for very long before they die.

 Humanoid Fruits

While most arierans look similar to large bananas, they can appear as other fruits. The other three most common are pineapples, papayas, and avocados. Arierans typically don't have actual faces, but instead have holes and slits where their face would be that resemble those in the visors of helmets. It is very uncommon for armor to be shaped to protect the "torso' and "head" of an arieran, but most armor for humanoid arms and legs fit well.

Arieran Naming

In their culture, arierans have no families, nor family names, and thus usually have a difficult time grasping the idea of family when talking to other races. Arierans are usually named things that most races are physically incapable of saying, as arierans are technically plants and thus have a completely different anatomy than most other races. So, arierans usually create a new name for themselves based on different words in Common, such as Toweldirt, when first meeting other races. That or they will ask someone to give them a name.

Rejuvenating Flesh

Since Arierans come from both Celestial and Fey means, their fruit flesh can heal anyone who eats it. However, they can not rejuvenate any broken off piece of itself, much like how humans can not rejuvenate missing limbs but can still hurt from other wounds. Commonly if a group of adventurers is lost in the wilderness, dying, and beginning to go crazy, they may betray and eat the Arieran guide they were with to survive.

Ability Score Increase

Both your Wisdom and Constitution scores increase by 1, but both your Dexterity and Stealth scores decrease by 1.

Age

While Arierans take about 5 years to fully mature from their seedling stage, they live for at most around 3 years after reaching full maturity.

Alignment

Arierans usually try to help others and will act like guides to the incoming races looking for adventure in the unexplored wilds were the Arierans reside. Even so, they don't enjoy being used and love their freedom.

Size

Arierans vary widely in height and build, from barely 4 feet to well over 6 feet tall. Regardless of your position in that range, your size is Medium.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Darkvision

Accustomed to twilit forests and the night sky, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Fey/Celestial Ancestry

You have advantage on saving throws against being charmed, and magic can’t put you to sleep.

Trance

Arierans don’t need to sleep. Instead, they meditate deeply, remaining semiconscious, for 4 hours a day. (The Common word for such meditation is “trance.”) While meditating, you can dream after a fashion; such dreams are actually mental exercises that have become reflexive through years of practice. After resting in this way, you gain the same benefit that a human does from 8 hours of sleep.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common, Sylvan, and Celestial. Sylvan's written form uses the Espruar alphabet.

Genderless Fruit

Because they are just humanoid fruits, arierans have no gender just like normal plants.
