Homebrew Badgerfolk Species Details

Heralding from lands of middle East Glaendral the badgerfolk claim no sovereign nation of their own. By their very nature they gather in tight knit rural communities, once these communities grow too large a section of these badgerfolk will relocate in search of a new home, near or far. Some would rather leave home early, struck with curiosity and wonderlust and others may be persecuted by their land owners due to their heretical paganism.

Prudent and Ephemeral

Curious and comfortable are the lives of the badgerfolk though incredibly short. Many a badger will dedicate their time to foraging and exploring their local areas during their younger years, tending to their jobs and works more at a necessity to quench the tax man than out of any passion for their crafts. Their short lives come with accelerated maturity, aging much faster than other races, allowing them to understand the world around them much sooner than humans, at the price of leaving it just as quickly.

Though sweet and comfortable looking from afar the badgers have a very mighty stature, standing between 5 and 1/2 and 7 feet tall, weighing in  between 200 and 280 pounds each when fully grown. .

The Hands of the Spirits

The badgerfolk have no organized pantheon nor single worshiped deity, rather they worship the natural world around them giving their faith to 'spirits' guardians of the nature around them and offer tithe and support where and when they can. This may take the form of a dryad moving in to the near by forest and being showered with fresh fruits come harvest time or an earth elemental being given a portion of a miners haul. Maybe even a will-o'-the-wisp being given a series of paper lanterns during the summer months to keep them company during the lonely nights.

The badgers love and care for the world around them believing it their duty to care for the nature the industrializing nations seem to be forgetting in the name of progress. Outsiders might observe these practices as a roadside shrine,  small prayers or other odd local customs that seem rather alien otherwise.

Wanderlust and Relocation

Populations of badgerfolk tend to remain rather stable during ages of peace, most only have two offspring their entire lives sometimes three resulting in small levels of growth. Though over many decades and sometimes even taking centuries these villages will grow to full capacity and as is custom half of the families will pack up their belongings and find another spot of nature to settle in. This has led to small populations of badgerfolk living all across the more temperate climates of Glaendral making them an uncommon but not unfamiliar sight to most who know of them. They often barter with local land owners settling small burrows and villages under their protection for a small service or taxation. These services most often take the form of forestry and farming, though specialized healers are known to occur.

Oftentimes these moments of relocation will spark a sense of wanderlust into the hearts of some of the younger badgers leading them to a life of adventure, curious to see all of what life has to offer, outside of comfort and clean living. Their strong builds often make them highly sought after mercenaries and their knowledge of shamanistic magic often sparks an interest with those they come across.
