Homebrew Chain Devil (Kyton) Species Details

Devilish and devastatingly powerful beings from The Nine Hells, the Kyton, or as they are more commonly known, Chain Devils live to serve greater devils who use them as jailers within their fiery realm. Chain Devils only know torture and pain, whether that be self-inflicted or focused on others, the Kyton live to torment and keep a watchful eye over their prisoners. Often found in Minauros, the third layer of The Nine Hells, these creatures usually imprison any manner of wandering demon or foolish humanoids who thought themselves heroes.

Infernal Blood

Chain Devils resemble very tall humans with very muscular builds and scorched red or gray skin. Most of their features are hidden by the layers and layers of chains that cover these Devils that they wear like tattered robes or belts and straps.

Kyton Names

Chain Devils are classified as lesser devils within the infernal hierarchy of The Nine Hells, as such, greater devils hardly concern themselves with names of lesser beings and Chain Devils usually are referred to by simple terms such as Guard or Captor. Devils of equal or lesser rank are expected ro refer to each other by name as to show respect or distinguish devils from one another.

DRIVE TO BE BETTER

It is believed that all devils have one shared goal, to continue up the ranks of the infernal hierarchy. Chain Devils are some of the lowest forms of devils and as such they are constantly looking to usurp each other. The Kyton are an especially driven species of devil who are always looking for ways to prove themselves as better and more powerful than what their high ranking devils think of them.

Chain Devils, or Kyton, are devils who serve as jailers and tormenters of The Nine Hells.

Unnerving Appearance

When you make an Intimidation check you can add 1d4 to that roll.

Ability Score Increase

Your Constitution score increases by 1, and your Strength score increases by 2.

Age

Chain Devils, like all Devils are essentially immortal and thus you do not age. If you are killed on the material plane, you arrive unconscious in the Nine Hells and and come back at half health within 1d10 minutes.

Alignment

As all Devils are inherently Lawful Evil, as are you. When on the material plane your rigid alignment becomes more flexible as you spend more time there and you may eventually change alignment.

Size

Kytons are about the same size and build as muscular humans. Your size is Medium.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Darkvision

Thanks to your infernal nature, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions, whether magical or not. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Hellish Resistance

You have resistance to fire damage.

Infernal Bondage

Any chain you touch becomes a magical weapon known as a Devil's Chain, an uncommon magical longsword with the reach property. You can only use one Devil's Chain at a time.

You can also animate nearby chains to act as weapons you can control from afar. You know the animate objects spell and can cast this only on chains, these chains grow spikes and deal slashing damage. You can cast this spell a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier between long rests. Also, when you have an animated chain make an attack on your turn you can instead command the chain to grapple the target, using your spell save DC as the DC to avoid or escape the grapple. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for this spell.
