Homebrew Catpeople Species Details

Catpeople are similar in appearance to humans, but bear the physical and instinctual characteristics of a cat. They possess the ears, tails, claws, and eyes of a cat as well as similar reflexes. Many theorize they are a subrace of humans that somehow evolved to display these characteristics, though most are still unsure as there is no proven link between them yet.

Catpeople have a variety of colors in their fur, differentiating them between each other. Examples of these color combinations include white, black, tabby, tortoiseshell, and calico. Catpeople take great pride in their fur and make sure to groom and clean themselves daily. The softer the fur, the more respected you are. Their sizes vary, but typically stay within the medium range when it comes to full-sized adults. Many of them are fast and agile, with incredible reflexes. And yes, they always land on their feet.

Catpeople Traits

These traits are simply generalizations and may not fit exactly right with you depending on the trait.

Ability Score Increase

You were born with that cat-like nimbleness and a natural gold mine of charisma (though your cute face definitely helps). Your Dexterity score increases by 2, and your Charisma score increases by 1.

Age

Catpeople have longer lifespans than humans, living up to 150 to 200 years. Physically though, they age similarly, reaching adulthood around 20 years and their elder years around 50 to 60.

Alignment

Catpeople are friendly yet independent, which means you tend to steer towards Good or Neutral alignments.

Size

Catpeople vary in their sizes, but on average are usually medium sized like humans.

Speed

Quick on your feet, your base walking speed is 40 feet. You always land right when falling from high places, though that doesn't mean your immune to injury.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and one extra language of your choice.

Darkvision

You have a cat's keen senses, especially in the dark. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Feline Agility

Your reflexes and agility allow you to move with a burst of speed. When you move on your turn in combat, you can double your speed until the end of the turn. Once you use this trait, you can't use it again until one turn passes.

Cat's Claws

Because of your claws, you have a climbing speed of 20 feet. In addition, your claws are natural weapons, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with them, you deal slashing damage equal to 1d4 + your Strength modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.

Feline Good Looks

Due to your naturally cute face, oh-so-soft fur, and that cute way you purr, people can't seem to say no to you. Your natural Charisma helps too. This gives you proficiency in Persuasion and Performance.

Lactose Intolerance

Any dairy product you consume will cause the Exhaustion condition at Lvl 1 (roll at disadvantage on ability checks). Taking a short or long rest will cure this or if you're lucky you can find yourself some stomach medicine in time. This condition is only found in adult catpeople for some reason.
