Homebrew Aylin Species Details
Native to the pervasive deep woods of Medéin, where the canopy is many-layered and full of life, aylins are used to the darkness and tangle of jungles and rainforests. Fiercely protective of their groves, the furred, maned and clawed aylins seldom venture far from their homes, preferring to tend to the forest and their cultural traditions of the Hunt. Aylins are highly competetive within their prides (their chosen, earned, or won family), often sparring and racing with one another, or comparing game from their hunts. Nevertheless, a select few aylins find themselves called to distant lands, either to settle their own pride in a new grove, or to live the life of an explorer, fascinated by the ways of the outside world.
Aylin Traits
Your familiarity with the jungles of your homeland and your animalistic traits grant you a number of unique features.Ability Score Increase
Your Strength score increases by 2. Your Dexterity score increases by 1.
Age
Aylins mature at the same rate as humans, reaching adulthood at around the age of 18, but their lifespans tend to be slightly shorter, reaching an average age of around 60.
Alignment
Aylins tend towards neutral alignments, with most being lawful neutral, as their prides value the upholding of ancient traditions, but are not against the swift execution of outsiders for trespassing in their groves. Few aylins truly turn to evil, and those that do are cast out of their prides and homeland.
Size
Aylins are very tall at their full height, tending to stand at around 6 to 7 feet; idly, however, they appear to be roughly 1 foot shorter than this. Your size is Medium.
Speed
Your base walking speed is 30 feet.
Darkvision
Your senses have been honed in the jungle, keen even under the thickest canopy and the darkness of night. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
Sharpened Claws
Your sharp claws are natural weapons, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with them, you deal slashing damage equal to 1d4 + your Strength modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.
Superior Balance
Your tail allows you increased control over your center of mass, granting you increased balance and agility where other races falter. You have a climbing speed of 30 feet and gain proficiency in the Acrobatics skill.
Bounding Leaps
Your legs are well-suited to jumping, giving you extra strength in your leaps, and stopping difficult terrain from affecting your landings. The following is now true for your long jumps and high jumps. When you make a long jump, you cover a number of feet up to one and a half times your Strength score. When you make a high jump, you leap into the air a number of feet equal to 6 + your Strength modifier. You suffer the normal restrictions to jump distance and height if you don't move 10 feet in a straight line before making a jump.
Pride's Fury
Starting at 3rd level, you can use your action to embrace the bestial wrath of your pride, causing your mane to thicken, blackened veins to spread across your body, and your claws to sharpen into vicious weapons. Immediately after you transform, you can mark one creature within 90 feet of you as if you had cast the hunter's mark spell on it, without requiring any components or concentration. This mark lasts for 1 minute or until your transformation ends.
Your transformation lasts for 1 minute or until you end it as a bonus action. You gain the following effects while you remain transformed:
- You gain advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks.
- You gain a movement speed of 60 feet (if it was not already higher).
- If you move at least 30 feet in a straight line immediately before attacking a creature and hit, the attack deals extra damage equal to half your level (rounded up).
Once you use this trait, you can't use it again until you finish a long rest.
Languages
You can speak, read and write Common and Sylvan.
