Homebrew Au Ra Species Details

The curved horns and beautifully patterned scales that characterize the Au Ra often give rise to speculation that this Hyur-like race native to the Far Eastern continent of Othard are, in fact, the progeny of dragons. This has long been disputed, with scholars citing several distinct differences as evidence of decidedly dissimilar roots—the foremost being the enhanced hearing and spatial recognition granted by an Au Ra's cranial projections (traits not attributed to draconian horns), and the second being the gross disproportion of body mass between Auri males and females (again, a trait widely unseen in dragons). The Au Ra are divided into two clans, the pale-scaled Raen and the dark-scaled Xaela.

 

Au Ra Traits

Au Ra run a surprisingly wide gamut of builds and abilities with deeply different cultures between the Clans, making them a versatile race of people with skills lying everywhere from ninjutsu to great axe-wielding.

Au Ra reach adulthood in their late teens and live less than a century.

Au Ra run a broad range of alignments from the Lawful, peaceful Raen to the warlike and Chaotic Xaela.

Size

Au Ra are Medium in a general sense, but due to the race's extreme sexual dimorphism, they can range anywhere from 4'9" to 7'1".

Your base walking speed is 30 ft.

You can speak, read, and write Common, Draconic and one extra language of your choice.

Cranial Horns

Auri lack ears in place of cranial horns, hollow bone-like protrusions on either side of their head. Due to this, they have improved hearing and spatial awareness compared to other races. You gain a bonus on checks that involve hearing and gain proficiency in perception.

Scaled Body

You have a natural armor bonus of +1. When unarmored, your AC is equal to 11+ your dexterity modifier.
