Homebrew Bloodborne Species Details
The bloodborne, a race of pale skinned and intelligent individuals capable of living for hundreds of years. This race survives on the blood of other creatures, with it providing sustenance to them, like food and water does to a human. Due to their nature, the bloodborne live in near pure societies, with grand cities ruled over by courts and a overarching lord. It is very rare for a non-bloodborne to make residence in their cities for long, as the temptations of their curse puts the visitors life in permanent danger if not under the protection of the courts.
The unender hunger that is ever present in the bloodborne plays a large part in how they life their lives. A selection of bloodborne enjoy the process of extracting blood essence from other beings, whereas others are reluctant, and only do so when necessary to remain whole. Any bloodborne ound guilty of crimes against the courts are often starved of this essense, causing them to slowly descend into madness and eventually becoming an hollowed husk of who they once were. It is a punishment many would consider worse than death.
Bloodborne Traits
The bloodborne possess the natural ability to consume the essence of another creatures life blood, using it to sustain themselves to unnaturally long lives. Each bloodborne is able to harness this essense to heighten themselves for a short period of time, with this ability often being reffered to as their crimson virtue.Darkvision
As a bloodborne you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
Incessant Thirst
A constant sense of thirst and hunger holds a grip over every bloodborne. If ignored, it takes its toll on them until there is nothing less than a husk of their former self. To prevent this terrible fate, a bloodborne must consume the blood essense of other beings through their bloodlust. Any bloodborne that goes 7 days without consuming a source of blood essence has their vitality (hit point maximum) reduced as they grow weak from lack of nourishment. This continues every 7 days until they consume a blood source and take a long rest.
Blood Lust
A bloodborne must feed in order to survive, however they tend to be picky eaters. As a bloodborne you gain an ability called Blood Lust, this ability allows you to consume the blood of a recently deceased creature (that has blood) in order to sustain yourself. The creature must be still alive or have been living in the past minute, when using this ability, a bloodborne revealed their extended incisors and makes small puncture holes in the flesh of the creature, before extracting the blood essence needed. You can bite as an unarmed strike against an incapacitated creature or one you have grappled. Your bite deals 1 point of piercing damage, and if the creature has blood and isn’t a construct or undead, you can feed from it as part of the attack. Your feeding deals necrotic damage equal to your Intelligence modifier (minimum of 1), and if your target takes damage you regain one spent hit die. You can regain a number of spent hit dice with this trait equal to your Constitution modifier per long rest (minimum of 1).
Ability Score Increase
Your Intelligence score increases by 2.
