Homebrew Aeolus Species Details

Tall and thin, they move with an easy grace similar to grass blowing in the wind. Their skin is very pale with a faint blue tint, and the whites of their eyes are black, with the irises being any shade of grey and white to any shade of blue. More often than not their colonies are up in the tallest mountains, where they can feel close to their god, and where they can fly free without criticism. Freedom is what a Aeolus cares about the most, with many leaving their high homes to come down and find what they truly love doing.

The societies built by the Aeoli are no true settlements, rather collections of camps scattered about in a range on the mountains they call home. A nomadic people, they travel from camp to camp most of the year, only stopping to settle in for the winter when the snowfall gets particularly bad on top of their mountains. The culture of the Aeoli revolves almost entirely around freedom, as many young members of the race will venture down off of the mountains into the world of the humans and elves and dwarves in search of adventure. More often than not, the young people that leave the culture change significantly over the time they are away from their home, gaining valuable experience, while also getting fantastic stories to tell when they eventually do decide to come home. Those Aeoli who do choose to stay up in their cultures typically remain exuberant and joyful for most of their lives, as one of the most important facets of the Aeolus society is fun. The Aeoli from birth are raised not to give up their personal happiness for anything, and to value themselves and their happiness over most other things.

Because the Aeoli value happiness and freedom so much, they can come across a little bit naive to some of the other races, but that's not because they actually are naive, they simply choose to look at the positive side of most things. When that can't be achieved, they do all they can to change things to make it so, often to their own demise.

Aeoli tend not to like Dwarves, as their rigidity and lawfulness tends to get in the way of the Aeoli's fun, with the Dwarves respecting orders and laws much more than Aeoli do. They tend to butt heads when they are forced to work together, with the Aeoli getting mad at the Dwarves for being too stuck up and rigid, while the Dwarves think the Aeoli just simple tricksters.

The Elves are a source of great curiosity to the Aeoli, as the two tend to be drawn to the same situations, at least when adventuring. The Elven stoicism gives the Aeoli much to joke about, which can be annoying for the Elves, but is a source of endless fun for the Aeoli. With the right Elves, though, the Aeoli find lifelong friends and companions, Along with adventuring partners that love to make each other laugh.

Humans are an Aeolus' best friend. The wide range in personalities in humans makes them the perfect fit for Aeoli. Some of the free spirited humans travel with the Aeoli to far reaches of the world, seeing anything and everything they want along the way, all the while doing what their heart desires. Even the tougher and more morose humans tend to fall in love with the child-like wonder and humor of the Aeoli, laughing at them as much as with them, and taking the jokes as well as they give them out.

The Aeoli as a species tend not to have any particular enemies, as they are as open minded as any species, but many Aeoli who have had particular negative experiences with one specific race tend to hold grudges against members of that species, but never going so far as to hold the fact that they belong to a certain race against any individuals, they merely react with caution until those members have proven that they are worthy of being trusted.

Aeolus Traits

Proficient with Dexterity and Wisdom, these creatures are diverse and strong.

Keen Senses

Because of their colonies being atop mountains, they often live very far away from many of the other settlements in their vicinity. For this reason, their sight has evolved in a way that they can see vast distances with very good detail, and have advantage on perception checks of thing 500 feet to one mile away.

Resistance to lightning

Aeoli are inherently resistant to lightning, and any attack that contains lightning damage is trivial to them. They are used to the violent wind and lightning storms that plague the mountaintops where they make their homes, and are frequently struck with lightning while in the sky.

Natural Dexterity

Due to  their nature of living high up on the mountains, the Aeoli have a natural dexterity that saves them from falling rocks and any sort of creatures that may threaten their homes. They also value freedom above all else, and because of that, the Aeoli have wide variety of skills, allowing for the increase of any other trait they so choose.

Lightweight

The Araola have evolved to be creatures of flight, and therefore do not have the same weight as most other creatures. Thus they are susceptible to being grappled in combat, and receive disadvantage on grapple saving throws.

Stormborn

Due to their connection with the storm god, they have been granted certain powers, and can use this power once a day to push enemies in a five foot radius back with a wave of lightning, causing them to be pushed back 10 feet, and be knocked prone if they fail a dexterity save, as well as causing 1d10 lightning damage.

Age

Aeoli can take a while to mature physically, and often retain a childish sense of humor and wonder even well into their second century of living, as they live a life of relative seclusion if they do not leave their home clan. Those who do leave tend to be more serious and mature, but still retain a mischievous side even with their experience as a wanderer or warrior.

Alignment

Their culture dictates that they do not take orders from anyone that isn't held to a high standard, even if just in their mind. Due to this, anyone they don't respect will not be able to command them, and they will rebel. This tends to take them more to the chaotic end of the spectrum, but they tend to stay good or neutral, as they enjoy pranks and jokes more than harming people.

Size

The variance in height among individuals of this species is large, and their species can be anywhere from five and a half feet tall to almost seven feet tall. This doesn't sffect their position in the community however, and all creatures in this race are of a medium size.
