Homebrew Anubite Species Details

"They rose up from the sands, blades flashing in the falling light. They cut their way through our flanks like a sickle through wheat. They moved like a liquid around our men, leaving nothing but a bloody pool of body parts where our soldiers once stood. An entire battalion, gone in the blink of an eye. As our horn sounded for retreat, I met their Captain's gaze. A fierceness burned in those violet eyes. He barked a short order, and they allowed us to withdraw. I will never forget those eyes... they're burned into my mind. I still see those eyes, that bloody blade, and the last rays of the sun playing over bloodstained teeth. Gods help us if Anubis rises again, and they heed his call."

-- General Aryn Mathaki, days before he was found  dismembered in a ditch, lying in a pool of blood.

Wickedly agile, Anubites serve well as scouts and flankers. Created by Anubis during his rise and freed by his demise, they wander arid regions, searching for purpose. Some find it in wealth, others in religion. Viciously loyal to those they deem worthy, they make a fantastic ally - or a fearsome foe.

Origins

During Anubis' bid for power in the Western Deserts, he realized he required an army. So he forged one, made in his own image. The perfect warrior - tall, lithe, and ferocious. Their agility was unmatched on the battlefield, capable of weaving their way through a foe as easily as a fish through water. Theirs was a dance of death, and they were true masters of their craft. It was only when a group of heroes decided to put an end to Anubis' conquest by banishing him back to the Underworld that they began to show signs of independent thought. Though they retained their propensity for combat and an inner aggressiveness, rarely found outside of Orcs, some began to normalize and integrate in society. Wherever they went, they were met with suspicion.

Even though they were not trusted, they were sought after as mercenaries and bodyguards, as their prowess in combat was legendary. Their loyalty, once attained, was unquestionable, and they had no qualms about dying for their liege. A perfect soldier.
