Homebrew Vulpinic Species Details

Old World, New Homes

Coming from a distant world known as Faunix where only humanoid animals exist. These humanoid creatures have a resemblance to that of a fox. They became planar travellers along with other creatures of Faunix in search of new discoveries. Many have chosen to stay on these worlds to make new homes and to live a life of discovery.

Travellers of the Stars

They travel in astral ships in order to discover new worlds which they then visit using similar magic to planar travel to get down on to the planet so they learn can all about the world they have discovered. Though the astral ship stays in orbit for a few days to allow them to return, many of them chose to stay and live a new life with civilisations of the planet bringing knowledge of the stars with them. This knowledge passed down through generations of vulpin's. Many younger vulpin's dream of the day when they can return to the planet of Faunix and share what they have learned.

Foxy Features

Each variant of the Vulpinic race share many features such as; their fox-like face, large ears, large bushy tail & fur however their colours vary from the environments they are from as well as other noticeable features.

Names

Their names vary from the environment they are brought up in or a variation of the parents discoveries.

With a natural curiosity you feel the need to learn everything around.

Darkvision

Living in their homes known as burrows, you have 30ft of darkvision but colours are much harder to make identify.

Age

Vulpinics reach maturity at the age of 4 and live to usually 25 years of age however, it is known that some have lived up to their early 30's. 

Alignment

Vulpin's are typically neutral however they can fall on either side when their curiosity or ambitions get involved.

Size

A vulpin's size mostly depends on the variant.

Language

You are able to speak common, Vulpic (custom language does NOT need to be used) and one language of choice.

Speed

Vulpin's like to appreciate the world their speed is 30ft.

Burrow

Many vulpin's live in places called burrows which they dig themselves. These burrows can fit 2 medium sized creatures comfortably, 3 medium sized creatures at a push but it will be uncomfortable to do so. This can only be done on soft ground and cannot go through stone. This action will take 1hr to do so and is to be used outside combat (unless it is a clever use of the ability. e.g. digging under a fence or digging the posts of a rope bridge to make it fall into the ravine with the bad guy on it).

Arrtician Vulpin

Arrtician Vulpin's live in the harsh cold climates of the world looking to discover/uncover hidden secrets that the rest of the world may have forgotten. They are the smallest of the vulpinic race growing between 4ft to 4ft 7in and their features are much smaller to preserve as much heat as possible and their fur is as white as the snow that surrounds them.

Ability score Improvement

The cold has hardened your body in a place where the strong survive. Constitution (+1)

Thick fur

Living in a harsh environment, you have adapted and gained resistance to cold.

Survival of the Fittest

In this world, this environment, it's always about survival nothing more.

Culpeonic Vulpin

Culpeonic vulpin's are on the larger end growing between 5ft 5in up to 6ft 2in and they have pale orange fur with a greyish hue to it. They often live in solitude on the outskirts of society and pushing themselves to the peak of physical fitness as well as learning skills for their own benefit. They have the largest body type of all vulpins.

Ability Score Increase

Years of training and pushing your body to the limits puts you at the peak of physical fitness. Strength (+2).

Peak Performance

Being at peak fitness, you have trained your body for this, let nothing stop you. Gain proficiency in strength checks and saving throws.

One with Nature

Living away from society, you have learned to be one with nature able to identify a creatures tracks with ease. Fresh or old.

Darwoe Vulpin

Dawoe vulpin's grow between 4ft 4in to 5ft 1in and have a grey fur with hints of white. They tend to live in temperate climates and live for thrill of exploration no matter the danger. They have the most inquisitive nature of all vulpin's however, they care more for learning the secrets of the world than the world around them. Very few die of old age.

Ability Score Increase

Darwoe vulpin's are fiercely intelligent and many study the secrets of the world from ancient tomes or the study of the universe itself for they are seekers of the unknown. Intelligence (+2).

Forbidden Tomes

You have studied books or have been taught forbidden knowledge. This knowledge has come an unknown realm that should not be on this world. But in doing so you have learned to understand the infernal and abyssal language.

You also gain a flaw called 'Dark Secrets' which can cause horrific nightmares that feels realistic as you will know of otherworldly beings.

Fortune's Favour

Fortune favours you on your quest or perhaps your just plain lucky. Regardless, you gain this as a racial ability that only exists for this variant.

Fortune's Favour: This ability can only be activated once per day and it resets at dawn. The ability can be used to gain an advantage on all perception and skill checks.

Fennec Vulpin

This Fennec lives in the harsh desert climate, they have larger ears, smaller in size and their fur is a pale sandy colour. They have a natural resistance to the hotter climate. They prefer to live in nomadic tribes in the desert environment and not just with their own kind. They will gladly share the knowledge they have learned with others who seek it.

Ability Score Improvement

Learning to survive in this climate, you must know where to find the food and water.

Wandering Nomad

The desert isn't kind, you do what you must in order to survive.

Preferred Terrain

Fennec have advantage to survival checks when in the desert and are unaffected by the desert heat.

Kitsona Vulpin

Kitsona vulpin's grow between 4ft 6in to 5ft 1in and their fur is pure white with distinctive markings round the face, forearms, forelegs and the tail. The colours of these markings vary on what it's purpose is to be. An example of this is a Kitsona with red/orange markings will become a warrior, green for druids, blue for magic, etc... Kitsona with two colours or more are said to become great leaders of the vulpinic race. It has been told in the stories that Kitsona's with gold markings have a great destiny to fulfil and they often become a symbol of hope and inspiration. When a Kitsona dies, the original colour of the markings fade to black as symbol meaning that their soul has departed. If the colour remains on a Kitsona when its dead, then the next of kin must finish what they started or it means that their destiny hasn't finished yet.

Experimenting is a key property of the Kitsona as they are often seekers of the truth. Wisdom (+2).

Purpose Bound

The Kitsona vulpin's bound by their purpose in life so they must follow it as tradition demands.

Kitsona love to know about everything and are often referred to as a 'keeper of lore'. Gain proficiency in history or arcana.

Roanna Vulpin

These are the standard vulpin that live in the burrows. Their fur often consists of red, browns and white and they grow between 4ft 4in to 5ft 1in. They move with purpose and that of natural curiosity. Many have become travelling scholars or travelling merchants of the worlds they live in to learn and unlock their secrets.

They are often mistaken for being sly and cunning when they are actually shy and timid and they prefer to be alone or others of their kind.

A thirst for knowledge drives you improve your intelligence or wisdom (+1).

Keen Senses

Whether it's living the life of a travelling merchant or the life of an adventurer your keen senses has helped you avoid many fights on the road. Perception (+3).

Life on the Road

Life on the road isn't easy you know this as a fact, so you learn the beasts you may find or the best places to avoid danger in the night. Gain proficiency in Survival or Nature checks.

Swyftan Vulpin

Swyftan vulpin are slightly bigger than the Arrtican growing between 4ft 2in to 4ft 7in. Their fur is a pale orange colour. This variant also moves with an uncanny speed and is unknown how or why they can do it but they do it with grace. Many vulpins believe that their speed is a gift from the gods.

With your natural grace, you find it easier to perform and you gain proficiency in performance.

Tools of the Trade

Swyftan vulpins are good craftspeople ofter handing down this skill for generations. Gain proficiency in any tool set.

Sylvian Vulpin

Sylvian vulpin's are the more elegant of all vulpin's and prefer living in cities. They like learn in places of relative safety using local or private libraries. They also like to study other races in the city. They prefer the study and use of magic and use it to help others on a regular basis. However, instead of travelling trader, they take up permanent resident of a city trader rarely leaving unless they have to. They grow between 4ft 9in to 5ft 10in and fur a mixture of pale grey and silver but a sylvian born with innate magic, the silver in the fur has a magical shine.

The study of city life means you know how to move with it. Wisdom (+1)

Trader Talk

Living in a city as a life of a trader means you have to learn other languages so you don't get cheated by others or you wish to impress those you speak to. Chose two languages between elvish and dwarvish as well as draconic and gnomish.

Tome of Lore

Having studied in libraries, you understand the history of the world better than most. Gain proficiency in history checks.
