Homebrew Waverider Species Details

The beat of a drum, the rocking motion of a ship under oar and sail, the gleam of steel and gold, the below of a warhorn. The snoring of an orcs crew as he lies awake in the hold, listening to the waves lapping against the hull. The clink of coins and hubbub of a port as another seals the deal on a shipment of goods. An orc's life can take many forms, but all are united by one common element: a love of the sea.

Waverider Traits

Waverider

Ability Score Modifier

Your Constitution score increases by 2.

Age.

Half-Orcs live longer than humans, reaching ages of about 120 years. Due to their perilous lifestyle though, they seldom live even half that long. More commonly, seafaring orcs live only as long as their homeship.

Alignment

Despite their chaotic tendencies, Waveriders aboard any ship understand that a captain’s word is law aboard their ship. Only when the captain intentionally endangers the ship will the crew rise up in mutiny. As such, orcs can be any tendency, but are seldom neutral.

Darkvision

Used to moving between deck and hold, orcs are able to see in darkness easily. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern colour in darkness, only shades of grey.

Sea Legs

You gain proficiency with vehicles (water), you also have advantage on checks made to keep your footing on a ship.

Relentless

When you are reduced to 0 hit points but not killed outright, you can drop to 1 hit point instead. You then have advantage on your first attack roll made in the next minute. You can’t use this feature again until for finish a long rest.

Languages

You can speak, read and write Common and Orc. Orc is a harsh, grating language with hard consonants. It has no script of its own, and is rarely written, but uses the Dwarven script when it is.
