Homebrew Cheri Species Details
Overview
Cheris are a race of plant-like species with appearances similar to the fruit cherry trees bear. They are around two feet tall (that's with the stem) with short stubby feet and arms that can tuck into the body. One noticeable difference they have from their plant cousins is that they are furry, and this is due to the cold climate the Cheri race originated in. They have a natural ability to burrow into the ground to protect themselves from harm, and once burrowed they must be forcefully plucked out. Cheris are notable for being quite outspoken among the many races in the realm, and they retain many political roles in multiracial communities. Maybe inside those big bulbous bodies are a massive head. Who knows.
They conduct photosynthesis using the single leaf on their stem, although the majority of their nutrients and energy come from consuming food like a heterotroph. They can live for hundreds of years, the oldest cheri to ever walk the land was around 5,000 years old when he died.
Cherman
As a language, Cherman is very similar to modern day German except for the fact that its mostly broken German. Grammar and speaking conventions do not carry over from German, so it functions like a language of its own although would be painful for anyone to even remotely try to understand. It takes years of effort for non native speakers to learn and understand to a degree of conversational fluency.
Cheri Traits
Cheris are known for being wise but aren't the strongest around. They are noted for being cowards and dig into the ground to protect themselves when danger arises.Languages
You can read, write, and speak in Common, Cherman, and one other language of your choice
Speed
Your base walking speed is 40. Your base burrowing speed is 5. You can only burrow in dirt.
Age
Cheris reach maturity at 20 years of age. They can live up to 5,000 years though 2,000 years is average.
Burrowing Defense
When scared, Cheris usually burrow into the ground and remain there until danger is gone. Sometimes, a Cheri in a panic may dig too deep and be unable to pull itself out which will result in death due to starvation unless physically pulled out.
Roll a d20. If the result is 11 or more, then all damage that would be taken this turn is void. If the result is 10 or less then all damage is void but you cannot do anything until someone uses up their turn to pull you out of the ground. This can only be used once every long rest.
Knowledgeable Race
Cheris are noted for being a cunning race. They take up many bureaucratic and political positions in multiracial communities and are experts at peddling goods. However, they are weak.
