Homebrew Ator Species Details
The ator possess monochromatic skin and hair, as well as slight monstrous features such as unruly hair, small fangs, sharp nails, and pointed ears. Their eyes are pitch black save for their irises, which come in a wide variety of colors.
Ator Traits
DarkvisionAge
Ator mature slightly faster than humans, being fully-grown in their mid-teens. However, they also lead slightly shorter lifespans than humans.
Alignment
Many ator are neutral, desiring to protect their own and caring little for anything else. While any alignment can be present, it's rare that ator feel strongly enough to lean towards order or chaos, good or cruelty.
Ability Score Increase
Your Constitution score increases by 2, and one other ability score of your choice increases by 1.
Darkvision
Your monstrous adaptations live on in your blood, granting you greater vision in the dark. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of grey.
Hide Emotion
Other creatures can not easily read your emotions through your facial expressions. Unless you choose to reveal your emotions, other creatures must make a DC 18 Wisdom (Insight) check to discern them.
Contested rolls, such as lying to another creature, are made as normal.
Iron Stomach
Your monstrous heritage gives you the ability to easily consume all sorts of creatures. You can eat raw food and meat, even that of unconventional sources such as abberations or fiends, with no drawbacks.
You also have advantage on saving throws made against being poisoned by eating diseased or rotted food.
Masquerade
You possess a masquerade: an item that obscures both your face and shame, while granting you benefits through a spiritual bond. While wearing your masquerade you gain the following benefits:
- You have advantage on saving throws made against being charmed or frightened, and magic can't put you to sleep.
- As a reaction to taking damage, you can reduce the incoming damage by 1d4 + your Constitution modifier. You can use this ability once, and regain use of it on a short or long rest, or upon rolling initiative.
If you are incapacitated, knocked unconscious, knocked prone, or another sensible event happens (such as having your masquerade pulled), your masquerade is knocked loose, potentially falling off. You lose the benefits of wearing your masquerade and have disadvantage on all Charisma checks until you correct or pick up your masquerade as a free action.
If your masquerade is lost or destroyed, you can bond to a new one over the course of 1 hour.
Monstrous Instinct
You gain proficiency with the Survival skill. Ator are natural hunters and know their way through the wilderness.
Language
You can speak, read, and write Common and one other language of your choice. While ator rarely venture out of their home, those who plan to adventure make the effort to study the languages of those they expect to meet.
