Homebrew Yuan-Ti Halfblood Species Details

When looking at how many traditions are shared between Yuan-Ti astrological rituals and the rituals of other races, such as fellow draconids, elves, humans, and even Goblinods (more specifically, the Verdan), there's no wonder they get along so well, and so often mate. I'd argue that these rituals and traditions are the main reason the Halfblood population has recently spiked.

Yuan-Ti Halfblood may not be able to ever reach the full potential of their Pureblood counterparts, only ever able to transform into their snake-like forms for the shorter, one hour period of time, at most. Or, at least, that's all that's ever been recorded. There are scriptures, however, that talk of a Halfblood who once manifested enough magical energy to keep their transformation forever. Though that's believed to just be a story told to Pureblood children.

Best of Both Worlds

All Halfbloods are different, in ways, but all are also the same, as they all share the inherent traits that come with their parent races. While Purebloods tend to be more outcasts, Halfbloods often find that they integrate into the society of the non-Pureblood parent much more easily than a Pureblood would. Because of this, Halfbloods get to keep the magical energy of the Purebloods, but also have the wonderful benefits of being much more easily pushed into higher paying jobs and getting to know many more people. Naturally, this makes them much better spellcasters, and, more often than not, they tend to have some sort of sorcerous powers.

Yuan-Ti Halfblood Traits

Your yuan-ti halfblood character gains the following benefits

Ability Score Increase

Your Dexterity score increases by 2, and two other ability scores of your choice increase by 1.

Age

Halfbloods mature at the same rate as humans and their lifespans are similar to their non-yuan-ti parent race.

Alignment

Halfbloods often follow the alignment of one of their parents, though they often lean more toward chaotic alignments

Size

Halfbloods match humans in average size and weight. Your size is Medium.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Darkvision

You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Innate Spellcasting

You know the prestidigitation cantrip. You can cast animal friendship an unlimited number of times with this trait, but you can target only snakes with it. Wisdom is your spellcasting ability for these spells.

Snake-Like Form

Once per day, you can take a bonus action to take on a more snake-like form, your legs morphing into the body of a snake. While under the affects of this, you gain a +1 to Dexterity, and your walking speed increases by 10 feet. This effect lasts for an hour, or until you choose to end it.

Skill Versatility

You gain proficiency in one skill and one tool of your choice.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common, Draconic, and one other language of your choice.
