Homebrew Awakened Petal Species Details
The sweet smell of flower gardens and lavender encapsulates the intrigue that is a society of Awakened Petals. Born as a bipedal humanoids, first looks might make any common individual believe they are savage groups of Nature's wrath yet the common floral folk are paranoid of most other races, a fear sparked by rumors of deforestation or reckless flame spewers who blow down trees and alight the grasses. Their greatest allies are the druids and rangers, these forest dwellers experience the incredible sight that is a performance of plants.
Tall and Beautiful
Born live from their parents or from a small living organism, they grow like any other human or dwarf. Despite being plants, they look very humanoid with all the physical featured expected of a bipedal creature. Joints, muscles, even organs are all almost complete copies of a human but instead replaced with plant fiber and tissue. Quite slender and thin, the main focus is their flower head yet their entire body can be seen as quite graceful and nimble. They're quite tall too, most bridge the gap between medium and large sizes and mutations can push their height further. Even when taller, their thickness still remains light, no matter the height their bodies are thin and gentle. The skin is is very soft and smooth like a polished stone, colors are mostly green shades of lighter and darker tints from the chlorophyll yet rare cases are found with orange to yellow and even purple pigment skin. The same is said for their petals, however yellow and orange are the most common and the lesser common ones are purple, green shades, and even red. The petals are also soft and can even move about to curl up or bloom outward as a pretty display, though this moment is not helpful otherwise. Eye color is an interesting topic, half of the recorded species are mood based where their current emotion is represented in the iris, such as sadness reflecting a light blue color, anger represented as red, or green showing happiness, so on and so forth. For the other half, their eye color matches their petal mane color perfectly. For example, an Awakened Petal with red petals will have red eyes if not genetically capable of mood adaption colors.
All their lives they wear more minimal clothing, just covering the chest and waist down above the knees. Smaller communities are only able to create their clothing from plants around them by using leaves and fibers for binding. More social and open Awakened Petals would meet other races attempt to copy the clothing materials or edit their own covering to be more "modern." A common trend among all these plant communities is a strong liking to tight clothing. Anything that isn't restricting but no part freely flows. Awakened Petals must never cover their bodies too much, arms and legs, especially the stomach and back should be exposed somewhat so they may be exposed to the sun more often during the day. This also supports why they wear tight clothing, so that even as their body is covered some light may pass through.
Silvanus First, Conversation Second
These plants are social, but always hold Nature as first priority. A passed down tradition is to love Silvanus, the god of wild nature. For this reason, seeing someone cut down a tree or fire an arrow to kill a deer triggers grief and anger, where the rage only becomes action if they see the person doesn't atone for their sin by replanting or praying over the dead animal. Not many are very physical, rather scolding. The more physically capable can get into fights though their tradition teaches them to resist the urges to give into their anger. Since most of their own clothing and food comes from Nature as well, Awakened Petals share their care by tending to animal families and plant "gardens" to more than recover. Some might even say this is an issue as they constantly cause more animal populations and forest growth than anything else, simply because they act on it every day.
After main concerns for their home, Awakened Petals are happily social and curious of other people. Though they are not happy discussing religion as they only believe in the one single god Silvanus, any questions about them and their people are met with positive banter. They'd mostly rather like asking questions about other people such as where they live or why they wear clothing, even the weapons they've fashioned. They'd talk all day if able.
Awakened Petals leave home mostly to see other communities, hoping for ways to perfect their skills or better themselves. The sunflowers who enjoy physical combat or the more intelligent folk who require literature and teachings to sharpen their minds or discover hidden potential are these adventurers. Another common reason is for them to venture away from home is mostly just to see the world, knowing their family at home takes care of the forest just as much as they do, other forests are around that could be in danger. These would usually be the druids or rangers of the Awakened group, venturing alone or with the company of a single animal or heirloom.
The Fey Familiars
Smaller groups of 2-3 or complete loners of their race are the ones who will ever have a Fey familiar, though all Awakened Petals are able to speak Sylvan at birth. These familiars are an animal creature that is very personal to the floral caretaker and will do their best to keep them happy or act as their family. Loners are the ones who need them the most, as a lack of actual family makes it hard for them to be social as Silvanus made. These familiars are on the Nature side of course with spiders, lizards, birds even. Their species actually dictate their personality and abilities which is most important for their Fey Forms. Once a month during a full moon, a fey familiar to an Awakened Petal or potentially other races though none were observed can transform into their Fey Form, a bipedal humanoid with features from their original animal form. They can change back and forth, but the chances are slim to enter into this Fey Form in the first place while changing back is simply the creature being willing so. In this form, their abilities are much greater and more prominent such as spiders being highly intelligent alchemists yet paranoid for their safety or badgers who are powerful fighters who show no restraint in combat. The reason for this Fey and Petal alliance is unknown as only the flowers themselves say it must be Silvanus who blessed them with these creatures.
These fey familiars and especially their Fey Forms allow solo or less social Awakened Petals to have their chance in the world. These floral persons are much more likely to become adventurers, even if the forest is their only home it's mostly that the familiars give the inspiration required to. These flowers are also more likely to be less lawful as they haven't existed with a large group of themselves with traditions and take the laws of nature into their own hands.
Awakened Petal Names
One would always have a name more simple in style, something they can even adapt to themselves to feel more personal and approachable in the future. At a young age the name is not chosen for them, instead they choose it themselves from their vocabulary based on what they correlate themselves to be similar to or around often. At older ages, they may change the original name if they feel it has lost meaning or is less desirable, or maybe they add on another name to their original like an adjective to describe further in detail. The names are less a proper noun and more an extended description of themselves. Often it's two words in one, and despite them using it as "first name, last name," the existence of the name is entirely a full first name, they have no end name as they have no common desire to represent themselves along a family line and rather a desire to appear more independent.
A common trend are that the more kind, gentle, soft ones name themselves after plants and the more brave, adventurous, daring kind name themselves after animals. Last are ones who name themselves after planets or realms, there's a wide variety of personalities that can be filled but the trend that fits them together is they'd most heavily prefer to stay in that realm specifically.
