Homebrew Watcher Species Details
”If beauty is in the eye of the beholder, then the person who is observing gets to decide what is beautiful.“
To wake up with thousands of eyes staring at you from birth may frighten or intimidate most new born infants, but not these creatures. From the day their born they are sent off into the world as a spy of sorts for their parents to gain information or those with in the mortal plane. Though most younger watchers from the day their born to the day they die work in eternal servitude for their elders, some young watchers may be touched by the mortal world and wish to find out more about it.
Beauty of the Watchers
Although it’s true these things are created to look human to blend in with the common vermin called mortals, these creatures don’t look entirely human. For instance to start with these things have scaly skin which can very in color. With usual colors shared by infernal humanoids, they have some interesting colors based on variants of their own races. For instance a death kiss watch may have many white and red skin much like their original beholder kin. Further more beholders being known for their eyes have many colors that can span all over the rainbow but also may have some unusual shapes for their pupils, along with their own eyes never usually matching the same color. They also have tails much like a beholder’s eyestalks ending with an eye. One final physical trait about these creatures is their pointed ears used for detecting far away targets. To summarize there appearances, they appear human but can share any physical traits with beholders.
One Eye Out
Much like Teiflings, which these creatures are frequently confused for, there aren’t many watchers around and even when they are people won’t treat them to kindly if they figure out they are watchers. Some towns people could go as far as chasing them out of town or putting them up for public execution regulars less of if they are working for a beholder or not.
Watchers don’t usually have any home lands or people to go back to, so they find ways to be independent in society. They could go to great length of trickery or deception to get what they want or they may try to get in others good side to get what they need, but as far as actually trusting others themselves is a matter of them warming up to them ignoring them entirely. Watchers aren’t usually very trusting.
