Homebrew Dhamp'hir Species Details
The Dhamp’hir, also known as Eldars, are a sentient humanoid race from the Shadowfel, and are the origin of the term Vampire. Within the Material Plane, they are exceptionally rare and powerful: individuals inherently have unique and powerful magics, they are one of the few races who have true immortality, and they are capable of creating creatures known as lesser vampires, or vampire spawn. What is known of Eldar is only known from those in the Material Plane, and therefore it is unknown how much of their abilities are due to a curse bestowed on them when they crossed planes or not.
The Eldar are elf-like in appearance, with long pointed ears, graceful features, and skin-tones ranging from the dark purples of drow to the silvery-blue hues of the moon elves. Therefore, it is easy for Eldar to go undetected by the other races, often masquerading as elves or half-elves. This is not surprising as Eldar and the Eladrin elves of the Feywild have the same origin.
The Eldar are inherently gifted with powerful magic and are generally quick to learn and master the skills of magic. These gifts are, generally, unique to each individual, and usually come about around puberty, like when magic adepts of other races discover their own magic abilities. While individuals’ gifts are generally unique, they tend toward the categories of shapeshifting and mind control. It is not unheard of for an Eldar to have more than one unique gift, though it is rare. This tendency to unique magic is poorly understood, but it is believed that the Eldar have a unique connection to Blood and Soul magics. This is further demonstrated by their ability to draw power from drinking blood and creating lesser vampires.
Eldar are one of the few races that have true immortality and have impressive regenerative abilities. However, Eldar are able to permanently kill or maim one another, especially in their bestial forms. In any other circumstance, Eldar are nigh on impossible to kill, though they can be temporarily injured or otherwise incapacitated – regeneration time seems to be proportional to the amount of damage taken. For example, cuts can heal within seconds, but amputated limbs take weeks to regrow. An Eldar was once witnessed to be incinerated by the dragon Dartax the Bone King, until only ash and bone remained. 6 months later, he was found alive and well.
The Arch-Wizard Hildugr Garkanan believed that powerful enough magic may be able to kill an Eldar, after he witnessed a curse induced disease kill an Eldar. It is believed he was attempting to forge a powerful set of armour and weapons to kill his friend-turned-rival Vincent von Varg, by the time he was arrested and his soul shattered…
Dhamp'hir Traits
Dhamp'hir are known for their cunning ways and mastery of magics.Immunity
As a powerful immortal being from the Shadowfell, you are granted natural immunity to certain types of damage, particularly that of poison and necrotic origin.
Vulnerability
As a being from the Shadowfell, you are considered a creature of darkness. This manifest itself in weakness to the light, specifically fire and radiant damage types. Additionally, silvered weapons pose a threat, as they do to many a monstrosity.
Superior Darkvision
As a natural predator and creature of darkness, lack of light doesn't faze you. In fact, you revel in it.
You can see in dim light and darkness as if it were light, and complete darkness in shades of grey (up to 120ft).
Immortality
Dhamp'hir reach adulthood and no longer age after this.
You are considered a true immortal - if you drop to zero hit points and failed three death saves, you are able to come back to life. The amount of time this takes depends on the cause of your death.
Feeding
You lust for blood. While the desire is not as extreme as a spawn, the hunger is still there. Only by feeding on fresh humanoid blood do you satiate your hunger.
You can feed by biting a humanoid. When you do so, roll your hit dice and heal that amount.
Every time you feed on a new person, you gain a blood token (maximum determined by level) that can be used to activate blood powers. Additionally, these effects are reversible as you use and lose blood tokens.
The maximum number of blood tokens is as follows:
- At level 1 - 2 blood tokes
- At level 3 - 4 blood tokens
- At level 7 - 6 blood tokens
- At level 11 - 8 blood tokens
- At level 15 - 10 blood tokens
Blood tokens may grant you to following powers (cost in brackets):
- Vampiric Healing (1) – vampire blood is a rare and coveted ingredient in many alchemical concoctions and poisons. As a bonus action, you can activate your blood and use it to heal a creature within 5ft for 2d6.
- Superior Ability (2) - you can give yourself advantage on an ability check.
- Misty Step (2) - you can use your bonus action to teleport to an unoccupied space within 60ft.
- Vicious Predator (2) - you can roll an additional damage dice.
- Mesmerize (2) - you can attempt to charm a humanoid. This feature woks much like the suggestion spell, DC 17.
- Superior Regeneration (2) – as a bonus action, you can choose to heal 2x your level, rather than the normal amount at the start of your turn.
- Legendary Resistance (3) - if you failed a saving throw, you can choose to succeed instead.
- I Think Not (3) - if an attack is about to hit you, you can force the attacker to miss.
- Haemorrhaging Strike (4) - (physical attacks) if your attack hits, you can choose to make it a critical hit. Additionally, the target takes half that damage at the beginning of their next turn. Only works on creatures with blood.
- Savage Spell (4) - (spell attacks) if your spell is a damaging spell, instead of rolling damage, you can choose to give it maximum damage. Additionally, if it forces the target to make a physical stat saving throw, you can force them to fail.
Regeneration
At the end of each of your turns, you may roll your hit dice and regain HP equal to the number rolled.
