Ancient Dragons

Ancient Dragons are dragons that are usually 1000 years or older they are generally all over the world and have a tendency to meddle in humanoid affairs usually either for one of two ways either for Tiamut or against her. While the chromatic dragons tend to fight for  Tiamut and the metallic dragons tend to lean the opposite way there are sometime some line crossings. Ancient dragons are usually only considered a Ancient dragon if they are 1000 years old but can also come to this state of dragon by having a mastery over their draconic power and influence over magic.

Ancient Dragons are typically immortal unless slain, although on occasion a ancient dragon may get bored with life all together and will enter whats known as the dragon death sleep where they fall asleep and never wake up again this process is whats known in dragon-lore to create mountains.

Notable Ancient Dragons Now

Cane

Cane is the Youngest Known Ancient Dragon a Male Copper dragon he is known to take many different forms and lead adventurers on daring quests. He usually takes groups of three or more unwitting adventurers and will use them to shape the way humanoids live often playing roles on their side. In the last evil war against Tiamut Cane helped Mumusoshi defeat Mumu's evil children and bind them to the sunset mountains. Not much is known about Cane other then that as he tends to avoid attention and uses his accomplices to get his things done and that he despises Tiamut.

Chaindorsu

Is an Male Ancient Red Dragon who is one of the three evil Dragons who attempted to release Tiamut several hundred years ago while not being the leader that position was held by Sumein, Chaindorsu did hold quite a position in the evil armies burning away his enemies and causing destruction, chaos, and strife in his wake. He is the only one of the dragons that was able to be forced into human form before incarceration as well as the only dragon that is not held at the peak of his mountain but instead in the bowels of it. In the very bottom of Mount Dorsu is a underground river of freezing mountain water at the very bottom of this river lies Chaindorsu encased in a solid block of Iron that his body heats up so hot it now boils the underground river causing steam to right from the mountain vents. 

Diakoshi

Diakoshi is a Female Ancient Silver Dragon whom lives among the elves and fey in the high forest living in the peaks of the star mount. She enjoys a friendship with elves telling stories between them but will not go so far as to protect them. They have asked for her help in battle before in war times and she has denied them preferring to not shed blood she has discovered how to live off of pure moonlight. A secret she guards closely and teachs very few. Legend says the moon elves came to being when she taught a group of wood elves how to feed off of moonlight.

Irkvine

Irkvine is a Female Ancient White Dragon who is one of the three evil dragons who attemped to release Tiamut hundreds of years ago she is imprisoned on the very top of Mount Irka the highest peak in the sunset mountains the only one covered in a constant snowstorm at the peak she is bound in human form by chains of magma each link with a iron band etched in ancient symbols holding the molten rocks form and suppressing her magic. Her magic is still so strong that the area around her is a snowstorm while just a few hundred feet down the mountain is hot weather.

Mumusoshi

Mumusoshi is a Ancient Gold Dragon being another ancient dragon that tends not to meddle in humanoid affairs but he still lives amoung humans. He resides in a monastery in the mountain range opposite of Mount Sume. He has taught the monks of the sunset mountains the fighting style of the dragon for many hundreds of years. All the while he also holds another duty being the keeper of his three children Sumein, Irkvine, and Chaindorsu he must insure Triplet dragons never escape their mountain prisons should they raise tiamut and bring forth the end. Mumu has been known to also train a wary adventurer or two if they can impress him in combat. As well he will answer one question to anyone who can defeat him in single combat.

Raikouno

Raikouno Is known mostly only by sailors being more commonly known as the Dragon Pirate Lord he is a Ancient Black Dragon. Raikouno has a ship in the sea of swords that he captains and mans all by himself using magic he makes his dragon looking ship sail across the ocean as though it flys and some who have seen it will tell you if it goes fast enough it can. His ship is quite unique having split sails a uniquely shaped hull, and word around the Ocean says it even can spray fire from the front.

Sumein

Sumein is perhaps one of the most well known Ancient Blue Dragons for the worst reasons he is a criminal. Charged with the attempt of trying to raise Tiamut he is imprisoned in one of the three tallest sunset mountains causing a constant lightning storm on it peak. His prisons Engineers put a 10 foot golden rod on the top of the mountain to keep the lightning from expanding out and destroying the nearby villages and towns including darkhold. He is held near the top of the Mount Sume in a magic prison whose walls and floors are made of solid crystal etched with iron sigils that bind his magic preventing him from transforming into any form besides his human form or casting any spells.

 

Tikkoya

Tikkoya is a female Ancient Bronze Dragon with quite a young spirit she actually quite enjoy humanoid company and even has a bar in swords coast right in baldurs gate known as Dragons piss Tavern there is a rumor that if you piss her off she will piss in your drink hence the name. But she greets all kinds of travelers from around faerun and even sometimes will give them a quest of her own should she need the help

Tenhun

Tenhun Is an male Ancient Silver Dragon in the east of Faerun sticking to the mountains he is actually one of the very few ancient dragons who do not meddle in humanoid affairs preferring to stick to his mountain gardens and sheep herds. He is quite friendly to anyone who visits him as long as they show respect, should you show him a bad side of you though and your likely to become a pile of dragon-dung. Tenhun is talked about being the next ancient Dragon to go into the Dragon Death sleep.

 

Ancient Dragon Traits

Ancient Dragons are old beings so old that not much is truly known about them other then what they say themselves.

Ability Score Increase

 Your ability scores each increase by 5. All your abilities cap at 30.

Age

When dragons reach the ripe age of 1000 their magic finally matures enough for them to change form and perform more precise magic. Once this happens they are considered ancient dragons and at this point as long as they are not slain they are functionally immortal. Although they can after some time of boredom choose to go into whats called the Dragon Death Slumber which is where they curl up around a rock they pluck from their birth-land and fall into a sleep so deep they never wake up and lie still so long the land grows over them and their bodies become mountains. This is the legend of where all mountains come from in dragon-lore.

Alignment

Ancient Dragons tend toward  Strong alignments. The best and the worst are found among them. But something important to be known in they love to meddle most wars are actually between a few ancient dragons pulling strings and applying pressure on countries to fight for them they usually never use the immense power they hold.

Size

Ancient Dragons have powerful magic especially in regards to changing form as they love to meddle in the affairs of other races. Ancient Dragons are able to completely change their size, shape, and form to whatever they choose at will with the only real restriction being their dragon scales in their natural form can never change color other then what is their natural color and they can only get Gargantuan or smaller.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet in humanoid form.

At will your wings giving you a flying speed of 80 feet

In Full Gargantuan Dragon form you have a walking speed of 50 feet, a swimming speed of 120 feet, and a flying speed of 120 feet

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common, Draconic, and one extra language of your choice. Ancient Dragons typically learn the languages of other peoples they deal with, including obscure dialects. Ancient Dragons tend to leave traces of draconic in the languages of man when they associate with them. Usually by accident they will curse in public when the stub the toe not being the most comfortable in human form and be asked about it and they will lie about what the word means and it will spread throughout the realms.
