Homebrew Cornugon Species Details

His mistress sat upon her thrown, her gaze lock on him, she had just given him an order, a mission he must complete or he’ll suffer grave consequences for failing her, her gaze was unwavering, it made him feel a tinge of fear, though he’s never admit it. Her eyes a burning red, her horns formed a crown upon her head, with wings of fire upon her back, her whole being demanded respect, and he gave it to her. The archduchess still looked at him, awaiting his answer, knowing way his only answer, he bowed and said, “By your command Archduchess of Avernus”.

For all his life, The Horned Devil had known that reading his mistress’s face was a skill he had been extremely fortunate to learn. A fleshling could not spot the shift of her eyes, they would certainly see only the angry of a devil in the Archduchess’s face. But the scowl on her lips, how she stared down at him, the look in her eyes—his mistress’s face spoke volumes.

But every inch of it, this time, seemed completely still—the anger of a devil, even to him.

— Orion Quibb, The Darkest Timeline (Campaign)

Hiding amongst the morals of the material plane, Cornugon also known as horned devils follow the orders to a tee, despite being among the most capable and cunning of the baatezu, Cornugons are also some of the least likely to betray their superiors, making them powerful assets, useful for infiltrating when properly disguised. Once giving a mission, it will do what it can to get it done, no matter the cost, all while trying to gain as must as they can for the one they serve.

"Command is another form of service and service leads to greater command."
— The "lesson" a cornugon needed to learn for promotion.

Infernal Being

Cornugons were ogre-sized creatures whose bodies reached up to 9 ft (2.7 m). They were 600 lb (270 kg), roughly humanoid beings with bodies sheathed in repulsive scales. The presence they possessed was considered intimidating even to other devils, as their massive wings, sweeping horns, and serpentine tails furthered their frightening appearance.

Infernal Personality

Despite being among the most capable and cunning of the baatezu, cornugons were also some of the least likely to betray their superiors, making them powerful assets. The true source of their loyalty was a point of contention although they notably hated and feared those stronger than themselves and so acted to avoid risk to themselves. While some claimed their true nature was militaristic and disciplined others said their loyalty stemmed from laziness, and their love of battle from belligerence. Regardless of the reasons for their obedience, if thoroughly agitated they were capable of daunting rage.
