Homebrew Awakened Moth Species Details

A colony of moths from various species became attracted to the Light of the Crystal of Awakening over time. Either by proximity or extended exposure to the magic of the crystal, these moths have gained sentience similar to the other SmallFolk. They have their own language which consists of pheromones and body language. They understand Common, but do not speak. Some individuals have learned a few words after traveling with other Smallfolk races. 

The Order of Thread Weavers believe that these moths may be the progeny of their god, Bombyx, the King of Moths, but no one knows for certain.

Awakened Moth Traits

Awakened moths have superior darkvision and the phototaxis traits.

Superior Darkvision

You can see in dim light within 120 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Phototaxis

If you start your turn in an area of dim light or darkness and there is a source of bright light you can see within 120 feet of you, you must make a Wisdom saving throw against a DC of 15 – half your total character level. Failing this saving throw means you cannot willingly move any further away from that source of light during your turn, and you repeat this saving throw at the start of each of your turns. Success on this saving throw means you are unaffected by this trait for the next hour. Light sources on your person or that you are holding do not trigger a saving throw with this trait.

Quick and quiet

Your small size and quick wings make you very maneuverable. Your fluffy nature allows you to move with little sound. Increase dexterity score by 2. You are proficient in Stealth.

Adorableness

Your bright wings and fluffy body endears you to other SmallFolk. Due to your limited speech, you have mastered the art of pantomime and body language. Increase your Charisma score by 1. You are proficient in Performance.
