Homebrew Bariaur Species Details

To those unacquainted, a bariaur is similar to a centaur, but while a centaur appears to be a mixture of human and horse features, a bariaur is a mixture of human and goat features. Below the waist, they appear like powerful rams or ewes. Their torsos are similar to those of muscular humans. Their skin is pale tan to dark brown in color, while the coats of their lower halves are brown or golden. Their hooves are cloven.

Most bariaurs wear some form of clothing on their upper torsos, be it a blouse, shirt, vest, or girdle. They often dye their fur a variety of colors or shave their pelts in stylish fashions. They wear jewelry on their horns or weave it into their hair.

Festive and Fierce

Lovers of freedom, most bariaurs are full of wanderlust, but they also feel a desire to defend their home planes from evil. Their carefree attitudes sometimes causes those unfamiliar with them to find them irresponsible, but this is simply an outward sign of their wanderlust. When evil shows itself, a bariaur's carefree persona is replaced with the focused stance of a hunter.

Bariaurs are social beings and very outgoing. Lovers of play, bariaurs enjoy competing in contests of all varieties, both mental and physical, enjoying everything from story-telling competitions to "clashes of horns" where they charge each other in a sequence of attacks similar to a jousting match. They throw festivals with singing contests and play a sport similar to polo. They enjoy these contests for their entertainment value and don't take most results too seriously. This love of contests extends to an eagerness to "test" visitors to their realm in such games. Bariaurs need times of play as much as most creatures need times of rest and will find times for games even on the most serious of epic quests of honor.

Bariaur are known for great courage; they fear little—except perhaps sadness. A bariaur will do everything in his or her power to help lessen the sadness of a friend, even if it means traveling the planes.

Your Strength, Constitution, and Charisma scores each increase by 1.

Bariaurs reach maturity around age 20 and can live up to 250 years

Alignment

Bariaurs are lovers of freedom inclined to wanderlust. They gravitate toward being chaotic alignments, especially chaotic good.

Size

Bariaurs average over 6 feet in height, with their hircine bodies reaching about 3½ feet at the withers. Your size is Medium.

Here’s how to determine your height and weight randomly, starting with rolling a size modifier:

Size modifier = 2d8

Height = 5 feet + 6 inches + your size modifier in inches

Weight in pounds = 200 + (2d6 × your size modifier)

Speed

Your base walking speed is 40 feet.

Charge

If you move at least 30 feet straight toward a target and then hit it with a melee weapon attack on the same turn, you can immediately follow that attack with a bonus action, making one attack against the target with your horns.

Ram

Your horns are natural melee weapons, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with them, you deal bludgeoning damage equal to 1d4 + your Strength modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.

Hircine Build

You count as one size larger when determining your carrying capacity and the weight you can push or drag.

In addition, any climb that requires hands and feet is especially difficult for you because of your hircine legs. When you make such a climb, each foot of movement costs you 4 extra feet, instead of the normal 1 extra foot.

Nomadic

You have proficiency in one of the following skills of your choice: Athletics, Perception, or Survival.
