Homebrew Blue Dragon Wyrmling (Wildmount) Species Details
True dragons are winged reptiles of ancient lineage and fearsome power. They are known and feared for their predatory cunning and greed, with the oldest dragons accounted as some of the most powerful creatures in the world. Dragons are also magical creatures whose innate power fuels their dreaded breath weapons and other preternatural abilities. Dragons begin their life cycle as lowly wyrmlings, usually raised under the care of a long lived matriarch as part of a clutch of their siblings. On rare occasions though, it is not unheard of for a wyrmling to leave the nest early, leaving the young dragon to fend for itself. Even as a wyrmling, dragons are a force to be reckoned with. While not as powerful in their less mature state, you would be surprised at how quickly such a young dragon can learn and mature on an adventure in the company of heroes.
- Variety in Colour
Many creatures, including wyverns and dragon turtles, have draconic blood. However, true dragons fall into the two broad categories of chromatic and metallic dragons. The black, blue, green, red, and white dragons are selfish, evil, and feared by all. The brass, bronze, copper, gold, and silver dragons are noble, good, and highly respected by the wise. These differing dragon flights also grant the dragons unique resistances and abilities inherited through their evolutionary ancestry. Some of these traits make certain dragons better at travelling in certain climates than others. A wyrmling’s motivations for adventure can vary greatly based on their dragon flight, but are not definitive to their individuality.
- Driven by Greed
Though their goals and ideals vary tremendously, all true dragons covet wealth, hoarding mounds of coins and gathering gems, jewels, and magic items. Dragons with large hoards are loath to leave them for long, venturing out of their lairs only to patrol or feed. A wyrmling on the road is no exception. Even without a permanent place of residence, a dragon will take what they can get and keep their hoard safe by any means necessary, even bringing it with them if they have to.
