Homebrew Abbotinany Species Details

The goddess of life, Kalleighanna watched as war destroyed everything around, turning the land into inhospitable, bloodied wasteland. See watched the land for years in despair, till one day, new life began to flourish in the form of small flowers. This gave her hope and an idea to create new life there, along with guardians to protect it.

For months she had shaped the land till it turned into the paradise she wanted. As for the guardians to protect it, she thought back to the flowers that had given her hope and thus the Abbotinany race was born. Sprouted from the seeds of flowers, sculpted to an elvish frame, vines for hair with seasonal flowers in them and a heart made from the purest essence.

Once they had fully developed, she tasked them with a purpose. Protect Life, Protect this Land and most importantly Protect the Nature around you.

Fully Grown

Abbotinany were originally grown from seed when they were first created. Since then, they have developed a better way to create more though how they do it is unknown to everybody else. The type of Abbotinany depends on the season apart from the undergrowth variant that live underground and the corrupted. They grow between 5 and 6ft and both males and females have slender bodies much like an elf's. Abbotinanies are also known to be androgynous. 

Plant Life

The lives of the Abbotinany are long and hard. They travel across the world caring for nature and they often plead with other races to leave nature be, which usually ends with them being ridiculed or being chased away with flaming torches. Abbotinanies are highly emotional beings that are able to tell the emotions of other people through touch and will offer guidance to help them. They are no stranger when they help people in need but this is usually their downfall as they are easily manipulated by other races into doing the wrong things.

Embodiment of Peace

Abbotinanies are the creation of life herself so they will not kill without reason as they are sworn protectors. So they are often used as messengers of peace between people as everybody knows how harmless they are. They are also a welcome sight in every settlement as they are magnificently colourful.

Clothing an Abbotinany

Abbotinanies can create their own clothing from special plant fibres and they can look as elegant as an elvish noble or as practical as an every day adventurer with varying degrees of colours. They also wear clothing that other races have created to fit in better with settlements.

A Rose by any other Name...

Abbotinany naming usually goes by the main type of flower growing in their hair. They also give them names in other languages still meaning the same flower. Like the saying goes, 'A rose by any other name would still smell just as sweet.'

Age

Abbotinanies mature when the are 1 year old and live 15 years longer than the average human.

Bio-luminescence

As Abbotinanies hate fire and avoid using torches at all costs, so they have developed a natural bio-luminescence that causes the flowers in their hair to glow in a bright light in the same colours as the flowers in darkness. The radius is 10ft of bright light around you.

Alignment

As a creation of life, the Abbotinany are Neutral/Lawful or Good/Lawful and are a known symbol of peace. Apart from the corrupted variant.

Speed

Your base speed is 30ft.

Rapid Regrowth

As a being of nature, your body has a natural healing properties. Upon taking a short rest, you instantly regain up to 10 hp a day.

If you lose a limb, it will regrow over a period of two months unless it has been burnt off which will require magical healing to help restore it (5th level magical healing or higher).

Home Grown Herbalist's

Abbotinanies can grow herbs that are required for potions as long as they have a seed from the plant. It takes twelve hours to grow and only one herb can be grown at a time. To start with, you have 3 different seeds native to the area you are from.

Abbotinanies can speak and write in common, elvish and one other language of their choice.

Commune With Plants

As Abbotinanies were grown from plants originally, so they are able to communicate with other forms of plant life. Which is helpful for them when they are tracking or lost.

Vine Whip

You have a natural weapon of a vine whip wrapped on both arms. As they are a part of their natural body, they are considered to be concealed weapons. If they are removed/cut off, it will grow back over two months.

Every Rose Have Their Thorns

When you are being restrained/grappled physically, you can activate thorns as a reaction to give you advantage to escape. And it deals 1d4 piercing damage as the thorns pierce through the flesh

A Sad Song of Fire and Ice...

As your entire body is made out of plant fibres, you become vulnerable against fire and cold damage as your body has a bad reaction.

Fibrous Tissue

Your body works differently to normal creatures allowing you to be resistant to piercing and bludgeoning damage.

If the attack causes a bleeding effect, you will lose hp as normal for that round of combat, as the life essence in your body drains away. The bleeding effect goes away at the start of your next turn as fibrous tissue grows over the wound.

Poison Immune

Your body works differently and you have natural immunity to all poisons.

Lover of Nature

As a being of nature, you gain advantage in nature checks.

Pure Radiance

As a being made out of the purest essence you have a natural resistance to radiant damage.

Absorption

Abbotinanies can eat and drink like a normal being. However, they can absorb nutrients from the ground for food. They can also produce their own air so they technically don't breathe normal air around them. They can create air for themselves underwater but can produce air in a airtight, sealed room so it takes longer for others to suffocate. This air is pure like it was when the world was first created.

Empathetic

Abbotinanies are highly emotional beings which has allowed them to become an Empath allowing them to read people's true emotions when they try to mask it through touch. You are able to cast the Empath cantrip.
