Homebrew Clockwork Species Details
The Metal man's face was as unreadable as ever and it looked forward blankly. However, you could feel the anger radiating off of its metal frame, it was powerful and strong. Eventually it moved forward towards its unlucky foe, pulling the staff from its back and hurling a bolt of fire. What was left of the aggressor was a blotch of blood soaked ground and scorched earth. "let us leave here," it spoke musically with it's pan flute voice, even with the ever present whirring of gears underlying its voice. This is a clockwork, seemingly cold but surprisingly emotional.
Created centuries ago, the clockworks are an old race of humanoid machines infused with the essence of life and music.
A Race of Machines
A mass of cogs and gears brought to life through unknown means, these mechanical men cover their mechanisms with hammered sheets of bronze, brass, or copper fitted to their bodies. Their figure is in the shape of a regular human sometimes with some special aesthetic features (Horns, Tails, etc.). Normally these mechanical marvels have ornate designs carved into their metal flesh, these designs are usually of creatures that are considered to be very beautiful or strong, like butterflies, Horses, foxes, lions, dragons, etc. It is said that these carving help make the clockwork's personality.
A Place For A Gearhead
The Clockworks are scattered around the world and can be found in any part of the world, but mostly in the north. No one knows why, but all the clockworks just seem to like the cold. While the art of producing a clockwork is knowledge exclusively known by a select few of their kind, some people of other races have learned the craft and produce clockworks of their own, everyone that knows the craft is loath to tell its secrets.
When they are made they will have some form of instrument worked into their design. The reason behind this is that the instrument enables the clockwork to speak, how this incorporated instrument does this is unknown, one hypothesis is that the instrument is enchanted for this exact purpose.
