Homebrew Baavolk Species Details

The Baavolk are a hardy folk, relying mostly on plants and insectoid creatures to sustain themselves. Being mostly out of the business of war, they seek instead to sustain their close knit communities. However, given the right amount of pushing, a Baavolk community pushed to war can mean entire mountains destroyed with their wrath.

Sturdier than Oak

Baaavolk are sturdy mountain folk that have heads resembling Goats. Every Baavolk have horns, ranging in size from 5 inches to over 8 inches in length. while these horns can be used for many things, their main purpose is to be used to traverse the precarious mountain paths they call home.

A Baavolks fur is likely matted and dirty, a feature that most of their kind share due a lack of need for finely groomed manes and particular hygiene. Even so, the Baavolk are almost never diseased and have a sturdy and powerful immune system. Even an elderly baavolk can fight off a vicious disease. 

Patience and Substance

Baavolk are patient and mature, yet also have a keen sense of wanderlust. While it's hard to bore a Baavolk, their lives among the mountain peaks and the lazy fields can't be described as the least bit exciting, outside of wartime. While most Baavolk keep to themselves in their high up villages, those that let their wanderlust overtake them can travel the entire world in their lifetime and yet will still find interest in every thing around them.

While many would compare a Baavolk to a slow moving stone in a stream, the Baavolk are prone to addiction. Some villages are overtaken by substance abuse and those that are responsible for keeping every building up to snuff practically let the villages fall right off of the peaks they are attached to. 

Long memories 

A Baavolks lineage is clear to every Baavolk born atop the mountains. For every village elder, there is a story passed down through the generations telling the tale of the Baavolk that brought the village into existence, and a tradition unique to every one. 

Every Baavolk village shares a unique name, passed down with the stories of their previous ancestors, and every villages name comes burdened with the stories that go along with it. For the Baavolk that reject the idea of a village name, the life of an outcast in the only life they will know after the Baavolk rite of passage..

Your Constitution score increases by 2, and your Wisdom score increases by 1.

Alignment

Most Baavolk are true neutral, focusing more on the needs of their people than the politics and morals of the outside world.

Size

Baavolk average between 5 and 6 feet in height, and they have stocky builds. Your size is Medium.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 40 feet, because of your powerful legs, and you have a climbing speed equal to your walking speed.

Horns

Your horns are natural melee weapons, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with them, you deal piercing damage equal to 1d6 + your Strength modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.

Meditation of Remembrance

At any time outside of combat, you can take one hour to meditate on the experiences you've had. Doing this can be considered a short rest. After completing a meditation, you gain the ability to add your proficiency bonus to any roll you make twice before having to meditate again.

Calming Gaze

Once per short rest, you can cast the charm person spell without requiring material or verbal components.

Relaxing Manner

You have proficiency in one of the following skills of your choice: insight or Persuasion.
