Homebrew Vampyre Species Details
Shrouded in the darkness of night, a figure moves unnoticed through the city streets. All it takes is a glance for prey to be captured, teeth sinking into flesh and a drained corpse left behind with a smile playing at it's lips. Satiated, the demon of the night returns to it's lair for slumber.
Vampires, the feared creatures that keep children and adults alike locked in their homes at night. You've been turned and now as an undead, are shunned and hated. Do you give into bitterness or stay true to your values? Will your bloodlust drive you to murder or will you control it? What were the circumstances of your turning? Were you a Vampire Spawn whose master allowed you to drink from them and gain your freedom or was your master slain, freeing you from their control? Were you part of a coven of vampires or are you all alone in the world?
Vampyre Traits
Vampires have amazing gifts but also horrific drawbacks.Ability Score Increase
With enhanced strength and reflexes your Strength and Dexterity both increase by 1. Your curse does gift you with an unnatural charm and beauty to lure prey to you, your Charisma increases by 2.
Age
When bitten your body freezes in a state of undead, leaving you unable to age physically. You will live forever unless killed.
Alignment
Most vampires eventually give into their evil urges from the bloodlust that is always at the edge of their minds but some can overcome and keep the alignment they had before being turned.
Size
Vampires do not change heights when turned so you stay whatever size you were before being turned.
Speed
With enhanced speed you move slightly faster than looks normal. Your base walking speed is 45 feet.
Superior Darkvision
Being subjected to a life in the dark, you are gifted with superior darkvision. You can see in dim light within 80 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can discern color in darkness.
Language
You remember the things you were taught before being turned, including languages. You speak the languages granted by the race you were before being turned.
Frightened?
Sometimes being charming doesn't cut it. You gain proficiency in the Intimidation skill.
Sunlight Sensitivity
Being undead, you skin cannot absorb sunlight anymore. The rays instead immediately burn you. When exposed to direct sunlight, you have disadvantage on all attack rolls and ability checks and immediately take 1d8 radiant damage. When in combat you must roll the 1d8 at the start at every turn while in sunlight. This can be negated by wearing a hooded cloak or something that protects or shields the skin.
Allure
You have supernatural charm and beauty which draws people to you. Once a day you can instantly charm someone with sustained eye contact while speaking to them. They must succeed a Wisdom saving throw or be under your spell. This person treats you like a trusted friend and will allow you to drink from them. This effect lasts for 1 hour.
Blood Lust
You must feed every day. You can collect blood from humanoid corpses dead for less than one hour, from restrained/incapacitated/grappled humanoid enemies in combat, or from a willing or charmed humanoid. If you miss a day of feeding, you gain a level of exhaustion and suffer it's effects. On the 5th level your speed is reduced to 0 and you are paralyzed, meaning you must be force fed blood before you reach 6th level or you will turn to dust.
What's at Stake
What an unlucky thing! You've been staked. If a piercing weapon made of wood is driven into the vampire's heart, the vampire is paralyzed until the stake is removed. This leaves you vulnerable to attacks.
Spider Climb
You have terrifyingly impossible abilities due to your new undead status. The vampire can climb difficult surfaces, including upside down on ceilings, without needing to make an ability check.
Manners
You shall not pass. The vampire can't enter a residence without an invitation from one of the occupants.
Past Life
You keep one perk from your original race before being turned. Cannot be a feature that negates or changes an ability you possess already as a vampire.
Feed
Sometimes you need a little something to take the edge off. As an attack or a bonus action, you can bite a grappled, incapacitated or restrained enemy to regain hit points. They take 1d6 + DEX modifier and 3d6 necrotic damage while you gain the amount of hit points equal to the necrotic damage you dealt.
