Homebrew Verdure Myconid Species Details

Community Focused

The subterranean lands of the world below is not inhabited by Auramycos alone but is populated by hundreds of thousands of Myconids. Myconids are gender-less and reproduce by growing a unique species of spores. Myconids use their ability to manipulate spores for a variety of uses and as a means of communication. Myconids have varying appearances and sizes but are generally fungoid in nature with a large cap for a head, and small green yellow eyes. These fungal creatures are generally peaceful by nature and flee from conflict whenever possible. They live in circles, groups of Myconids that live in 8 hour cycles of farming, sleeping, and melding. The meld is a semi-hallucinogenic hive mind state where all individual thoughts and experiences are shared through the circle. Overtime, as Myconids become older melding empowers them to detect the Weald around them and to draw the Weald in large quantities around themselves.

Driven Survival Instinct

As the stars fall the circles of Myconid begin to take drastic members to ensure the survival of their species. Certain circles have initiated a permanent melding creating the Verdure Myconid, with the purpose of creating individuals powerful enough to venture far afield and spread to other planets to continue their search for enlightenment. In a hostile world forged by conflict, the world ending is simply another delay of enlightenment to be overcome to the Myconid.

Odd Mutations

Becoming Verdure involves an ancient ritual only performed in the direst of circumstances as it pulls from the ancient magic of Auramycos itself as well as a substantial amount of energy from the individuals involved. This melds all the minds in the circle together and something new is born from this collision. Naturally this is a very traumatic process and often Verdure Myconid go into shock with their new forms becoming unstable at first. Though this results in a being much more powerful than the sum of it's parts, the Verdure Myconid begins it's life with the ability to tap into only a fraction of it's true potential. However, pulling a large amount of power from the Wield results in physical mutations shaping the Verdure into any body type possible for the Myconid race as a whole.

Verdure Myconid Traits

Myconids have often had to rely on their spores for survival and the Verdure do so as well

Ability Score Increase

Myconids shared experiences and essence make them more durable and wise, however they are often still ill equipped to use brute force as most circles are passive in nature. Verdure Myconid gain +2 to Con, +1 to Wis, and -1 to Str.

Alignment

Myconid by their nature are peaceful and show help to travelers once intent and temperament are determined. Thus their conglomerations are inclined to posses similar personalities typical of the majority of individual Myconid trending them toward Neutral Good. However due to the unstable nature of the magic that brought them into being could push them to become more wild tending toward chaotic. Verdure Myconid of any evil alignment are considered to have been cursed and are destroyed quickly upon their creation as they do not represent what Auramycos believes is the best possibility of the species.

Age

Age for the Verdure are hard to pin down, does their birth start from the oldest member that went into making the being, or does the date of the circles final melding institute the birth of this being? As elder Myconids are wiser and possess more experience it could even be said that the Verdure's age is the cumulative age of the circle as a whole. However details such as this often matter little to creatures possessing such a dire mission.

Reduced Sun Sickness

Normally Myconid fear the sun as direct exposure brings nothing but death if left exposed for an hour. However the Verdure must venture forward and their bolstered resilience makes direct exposure to the sun merely unpleasant instead of deadly.

You have disadvantage on attack rolls and on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight when you, the target of your attack, or whatever you are trying to perceive is in direct sunlight.

Rapport Spores

Myconids communicate primarily through their spores, however the links formed between the Verdure Myconid and creatures of other races are not perfect. If no common language is shared between the creatures then only general intent and emotions can be communicated in this way.

A 30-foot radius of spores extends from the myconid. These spores can go around corners and affect only creatures with an Intelligence of 2 or higher that aren’t undead, constructs, or elementals. Affected creatures can communicate telepathically with one another while they are within 30 feet of each other. The effect lasts for 1 hour.

In addition, When the Verdure myconid takes damage, all other myconids and creatuures affected by Rapport spores within 240 feet of it can sense its pain.

An Anomalous Physiology

During the permanent melding the resulting Verdure Myconid can take on any shape possible for the race as a whole. These fall into three largely distinct phases in a Myconids life cycle, Sproutling, Mature, or Sovereign. Each stage focuses on a different type of spore produced by Myconids and focus on one of the many survival methods Myconids have created overtime.

Small Sproutling Verdure are often akin to powerful infants born wise beyond their years. Verdure that take this form lend cadence to the idea that they are new beings entirely that represent a new beginning that will lead to a promising future. Once per short rest they can use their pacifying spores to stun an enemy

Mature Verdure Myconid are rife with the deadliest poisons that make them more resilient to the influences of foreign poisons. Mature Verdure have resistance to poison damage and immunity to the poisoned condition. Once per short rest, as an action they may use their Poisoncap Spores ability

Large Myconid, old and wizened. Sovereign Verdure appear ancient and powerful. They bring to bear animating spores using every resource it can find to accomplish it's goals. Sovereign Verdure have their movement speed reduced to 25 ft, and they count as one size larger for the sake of determining grapple and carry capacity. They also gain tremor-sense up to 25 ft around them and the ability to animate dead humanoids and beasts (up to CR=1/4 level) using their Animating Spores.

Superior Darkvision

The tunnels of the world below are often poorly lit if at all, all Myconids can see in the dark and this ability is enhanced even further by the Verdure's permanent meld. Verdure myconid have darkvision out to 120 ft and they can see as if it were brightly lit up to 30 ft away.
