Homebrew Time Lord Species Details

Bonnie: You don't understand. You will never understand.

The Doctor: I don't understand? Are you kidding? Me? Of course I understand. I mean, do you call this a war, this funny little thing? This is not a war. I fought in a bigger war than you will ever know. I did worse things than you could ever imagine, and when I close my eyes... I hear more screams than anyone could ever be able to count! And do you know what you do with all that pain? Shall I tell you where you put it? You hold it tight... Until it burns your hand. And you say this -- no one else will ever have to live like this. No one else will ever have to feel this pain. Not on my watch.

Of The Stars

To most of the races of the world, Time Lords look like humans. They stand anywhere from 4 to 7 feet tall, and have no visible distinguishing features from their human companions and friends. However, the Time Lords are a race rumored to come from the far realms, with stories claiming their origins as anywhere from the Astral Plane, to a separate planet confined in the prime Material Plane, to some claiming they come directly from the plane of Mechanus. No matter their origins, the Time Lords are a rare and enigmatic race, and many who know them never realize their true origins.

Eternal Wanderers

Time Lords are sometimes called "The Many-Faced Wanderers", after their almost ageless nature, and their ability to reform a new body when close to death. When Time Lords travel, it can seem trivial for them to interfere, as to them many others will die in a blink of an eye. The Time Lords often blend into the societies they encounter, only taking up arms when it is absolutely necessary. In battle, though, Time Lords can be some of the most fearsome warriors, healers, and sages, as their longevity leads them to great study and observation.

While creating a Time Lord, consider your relationship to regeneration. Does your character see it as something akin to death, or is it closer to a medical procedure to them? Have they already undergone regeneration? If so, how many regenerations does your character have left? Work with your DM to discuss how your regenerations may affect the campaign.

Time Lord Names

Time Lords use the naming conventions of the societies they interact with. They also often take on titles rather than formal names, such as "The Professor", "The Healer", or "The Warrior", to better reflect what they see as their place in the universe.

Time Lord Traits

Your Time Lord character shares some traits in common with all other Time Lords.

Regeneration

Up to 12 times in their life, when a Time Lord falls unconscious, on their next turn, instead of making death saving throws, they can instead choose to use their turn undergo a regeneration.

While a Time Lord regenerates, they are considered incapacitated.

When a Time Lord regenerates, they immediately regain half their hit dice + their Constitution modifier hit points and are immune to slashing, bludgeoning, and piercing damage and resistant to all other damage until the regeneration ends at the start of their next turn. If they fall to 0 hit points between beginning their regeneration and the start of their next turn, they immediately die. Once their next turn begins, they immediately gain three levels of exhaustion, which cannot be cured by any means other than rest or a wish spell, and the regeneration ends, ending their turn.

While regenerating, you choose at least two of the following to change about your Time Lord character: gender, height, weight, alignment, eye color, hair color; in addition, at least one personality trait, bond, or flaw must be swapped for another.

During the regeneration, any creature who touches the regenerating Time Lord takes 3d10 radiant damage.

Ability Score Increase

Your Wisdom and Intelligence scores each increase by 1.

Age

Time Lords stop appearing to physically age at approximately 50 years old, at which point they spend the rest of their thousands of years looking somewhere between 20 and 60, depending on the regeneration's appearance.

Alignment

Time Lords try to stay out of many conflicts, leading them towards neutrality. However, some Time Lord travelers lean chaotic, caring more about the moment and the people around them than anything else.

Time Lords are about the same size as humans, ranging from 5 to 6 feet tall. Your size is Medium.

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.
