Homebrew Android Species Details
The Perfect Warrior
Created by mechanical means, androids appear as normal humans, but are superior to humans in most athletic feats. Armed to the teeth with the most advanced forms of unarmed combat, their artificial brains holds a large collection of several advanced traits, including athletics and acrobatics. Being made of synthetic material, androids don't need to rest except to do self-repairs. Using advanced AI technology, androids are able to adapt to different situations to find the best method of completing their mission. Emotions have no effect on decision making, and androids care only about the execution of their task.
Troubled beginnings
While multiple companies claim to be the original creators of androids, the first recorded case of a humanoid robotic soldier was during World War II. Unknown for several years, Jonathan Snow and an escaped Japanese prisoner referred to as "Erik" worked on a secret lab hidden underground on the coast of California. Private Jonathan Snow was stationed at a temporary military prison, where he first met Erik. Not able to speak English well, Erik tried his best to bargain his way out. After several days of failed attempts, Erik explained his plans for a robotic soldier. Intrigued, Private Snow agreed to let him out if he could help. Luckily, the end of the war was near, and perfect timing allowed for Erik to be released. Private Snow was about to be sent home, when he received a letter in the mail from Erik. The letter itself has never been found, but by looking through the journal of Jonathan Snow, historians were able to conclude it contained the latitude and longitude of the hidden bunker. Jonathan was never seen again, and was declared missing and later dead. However, on June 3rd, 1950, Jonathan's wife, Natalie, received a letter from California. It was from Jonathan, and how "everything will be smooth sailing from now on". In the letter, he sent his will, giving everything he had to Natalie, including blueprints for a "super soldier" he sent along with the letter. However, 4 days after receiving the blueprints, Natalie's house was broken into, and the thieves took the blueprints, killed Natalie, and left her 14 year old son, Jacob, alone with his dead mother. To this day, Jacob snow dedicated his life trying to expose the criminals, taking on huge corporate entities and preaching about the story of his father Jonathan Snow and his partner Erik.
A Moral Debate
Once commanded to accomplish a goal or set of goals, androids will stop at nothing to achieve this goal. While androids will always be stronger than humans, many argue that the implications of warriors without sympathy will be dangerous. Sympathy is argued as a key component of good decision making, while others defer this by saying that feelings actually complicate problem solving. While the correct answer is still being argued, companies still invest time, effort, and money into the production of the "perfect human".
Faulty Programming
Androids have gone under several studies to ensure the quality of their services. However, a common fault across multiple studies have shown that prolonged exposure to outside influences have shown to affect the AI synapses. For example, being put in an environment where they are forced to see beauty simple things, like a work of art or a landscape, has led to the android eventually attempting to either kill the owner or running away. While performing a biopsy on an android that went "rogue", a group of engineers noticed the AI circuit board was actually fried, yet the android was still able to operate and make decisions. Even though large producers of androids attempt to cover up this defect, word about "rogue androids" still are able to spread, causing fear and hatred towards androids to emerge.
A Rise in Production
While androids were originally designed as warriors, many investors have pushed for new uses of the androids. With some simple modifications to the original design, engineers have been able to create a wide variety of androids, catered towards certain applications. Today, a large majority of androids are used as house maids, taxi cab drivers, and pleasure bots. In fact, against Jonathon Snow's true vision, hardly any androids are used for their original purpose today.
Android Traits
Androids are programmed to follow a direct set of commands. Made up on synthetic material, androids are a more advanced human, but without the emotions. Must be paired with the Android subclassMechanical Composition
Being composed entirely of non-biological components, androids are able to fully restore themselves on both short rests and long rests. You also gain immunity to being paralyzed, exhaustion, disease, and poison, and your monotone communication strikes fear into the hearts of many who hear you (bonus intimidation).
Advanced Sonar
Androids are equipped with advanced sonar equipment, so they can perceive its surroundings without relying on sight, although it is not as effective as normal vision.
Radiating Aura
Internal workings cause a faint glow to constantly emit from the center of the android. The glow can be turned off only if the android shuts down.
Unarmed Warrior
Your ability scores for Strength, Dexterity, and Constitution increase by 2. Since androids are not trained in armed combat, all weapons attack rolls have disadvantage.
Languages
You can speak, read, and write Common with the ability to learn any other language. Androids learn the language of their operator, which can be one of the 500 languages that is programmed into the brain of the android. If you are convinced you need to learn a new language to complete you mission, you can speak, read, and write in said language after 1 minute of downloading.
