Homebrew Cryslesian Species Details

Living shards

These otherworldly creatures are a little bit more than 6 feet tall, streamlined humanoid beings. Their bodies are made of an organic crystal, which is strangely warm and hard to the touch. While their limbs look like a single crystal, more complex part of their bodies, like hands or the face, are made out of smaller fragments forming the shape of the needed appendage. The color of their body ranges from pearl white to a metallic silver with a colorful glow behind the first layers of skin, and turn into a dull black or dark grey on the back of their head and their shoulders. Their faces look hard and are especially difficult to read for non-Cryslesians. Four narrow eyes without a pupil are placed where a human’s eye socket and eyebrows would be placed. In their mouth are neither teeth nor tounge, instead a small array of pitchblack crystals sits at the beginning of the troat. These crystals are used to syphon energy and matter from portals, in order to nourish the body. This will dismantel the portal, but until its end it can feed a city for years. Their legs are especially long and aerodynamic, making them flexible and agile. Those legs end in razor-sharp, bladelike tips which are designed to hook themselves into the soft, sticky ground of their home. These blades slowly dull while walking on rock, dirt and road and, as a result, need to be sharpened regularly by Cryslesians who choose to visit the Material Plane.

"I've heard people say a Cryslesian could cut a fat dwarf in half with just a well-placed kick. I've learned about the truth of these rumors the hard way."- Horatio Falbourne, Bandit Leader who attacked a group of Cryslesians.

Astral Surfer

Due to the unusual conditions on their Native Plane, Cryslesians adapted the ability to channel the energy in their bodies and release this energy out of their back to catapult themselves with neckbreaking speed through the Astral Plane. Although hard to controll, a healthy cryslesian can always break by ramming their legs into a nearby object or the ground.

Cities in the Void

Build on fragmets of other worlds drifting through the Astral Plane, these cities are no mere buildings behind a wall, tightly packed near noutritious soil. A city is one gigantic and ancient monument, never to be completed. If a city finds new resources spilled out by a portal or looted from Githyanki, these resources will be integrated into the city so it can grow even further. Althoug magnificent in aritecture, it is a challenge to navigate through the labyrinth of halls, bridges, sidewalks and windows. Notable from a distance are enormous tendrils crafted from leather, string, wood and other flexible materials. These tendrils are outposts linked to winches and are used to gather resources and portals to feed the citizens.

Between Pioneering and Decadence

The Astral Plane is a place with few resources and many dangers. To survive means to use everything at your disposal. This made Cryslesians quite creative inventors with a great curiosity, but also fierce hoarders. Althoug they respect and practise trading, theft and plundering are seen as valid strategies during a crisis. Since collaboration is important to survive, a cryslesian will share his posessions with the people she or he trusts if its beneficial to a certain situation. In the great cities, with an abundance of resources, a small percentage of citizens claim themselves as leader after claiming a great part of these resources. Without the need to fight for survival these aristocrats become quicly decadent, living quite a decandent life. Until the protests begin to start or a mayor threat occurs. In such a dire situation the aristocrats will share their wealth to ensure a political balance or to fight the threat. The common citizen is quite educated and everybody can contribute to science by experimenting and inventing in great academys to satisfy their curiosity and help improving the city. Nearly every citizen has a occupation in side a city, claimed according to education and personal interest. Since an evergrowing building floating in a void needs a lot of maintenance, the working time is flexible at best, mostly totally random, whenever someone is needed
