Homebrew Crystacolyte Species Details
Horrible magic crystal experiment, gone wrong, gone sexual. The Crsytacolytes were created by a mad wizard trying to make an army of humans augmented with magical crystals to increase their intellectual aptitude. The experiment was a bit too successful in melding the crystals with the limbs of the subjects allowing for a higher intelligence boost than expected at the cost of durability, the crystal being surprisingly brittle. Using their increased intelligence, the new humans dubbed themselves Crystacolytes and overthrew their creator. After escaping the clutches of the wizard, They reintegrated into society and figured out that they were still compatible with normal humans. The creation of offspring between a human and a crystacolyte, while usually resulting in a human, can result in a crystacolyte, despite their non-biological limbs. Crystacolytes look like humans except that their arms and legs are made out of a magic crimson crystal. This crystal increases the intellectual aptitude of the crystacolytes and naturally act a as conduit for magic.
Crystacolyte Traits
The physiology of crystacolytes give them some distinct advantages and disadvantages.Ability Score Increase
The crystals that make up your arms and legs provide a significant boost to your intelligence, at the cost of your constitution. You have +2 to intelligence, a +1 to wisdom, and -4 to constitution.
Crystalline Make Up
The crystals that make up the Crystacolytes' limbs have similar characteristics to that of obsidian, quite brittle but can perfectly hold an edge. Because of the natural sharpness and brittleness of your extremities, when you hit, your unarmed strikes deal 2d8 slashing damage and you must succeed a DC22 Constitution saving throw or take damage equal to the damage you dealt and the limb you used is shattered until a healing spell is cast on you or you take a longrest. You have a vulnerability to bludgeoning damage and when you take damage due to falling from a height, you must succeed a DC19 Constitution saving throw or your legs are shattered until a healing spell is cast on you or you take a longrest. While your legs are shattered, your walking speed is halved. When an arm is shattered, it shatters the entire arm except for the shoulder, making the arm effectively useless.
Innate Magical Aptitude
The crystals of the Crystacolytes allow them to more effectively use magic and even cast magic using their own life-force. You have a +1 bonus to your spell save DC and your spell attack bonus. You are able to drain your health to cast spells of 1st level and above. Whenever you cast a spell, you can choose to take force damage equal to 20% of your health for each level of the spell (rounded up) instead of using a spellslot. This feature cannot be used to cast spells at a higher level (spells cast with this feature must be cast at their lowest level). You cannot cast spells with this feature if you do not have enough health to give. You cannot cast spells that you would not normally be able to cast (such as not having a spellslot of high enough level).
