Homebrew Aetherborne Species Details

“The Aetherborne are beings born from the direct unfiltered essence of the weave itself and are brought into creation whenever there is an explosion of great magical energy or when there is a great loss within the world such as the loss of thousands of lives or the desolation of a mighty forest. Though it is a simple theory I believe this to be because upon death beings release the magical essence that their forms were exposed to in life, and so similarly a forest that stood for hundreds or thousands of years would also release great amounts of magical essence.

Though little is known of this race it is logical to say they tend towards chaotic lifestyles due to the fact they’re made up of the unfiltered and chaotic essence of the weave. One more fact is known of this race because they’re not born female nor male they do not actually have the means to reproduce though this is made up for by their incredibly long lifespans and the fact that humankind is due to repeat its foolish follies such as committing magical warfare against one another for the purposes of experimentation, in fact, I foresee such a war is not far off as tension between Xorhas and the Dwendalian Empire seem to grow more and more by each passing day.” —Archmage Albazarr

Aetherborne Traits

The Aetherborne gains a +2 to Intelligence, and a +1 to either Wisdom or Charisma. They also gain, Adaptive Form and Shooting Star, Self Sustained Form.

Ancient Intellect

Due to the Aetherborne being born directly from the unfiltered essence of the weave they make for very intelligent entities. Furthermore, because they're born from essence sometimes derived from other living beings they can make for quite charismatic beings or even wise from the previous experiences of their former selves.

Adaptive Form

As a reaction to taking non-physical damage, you may use the power of the weave to become resistant to the provided damage type going forward, however, in doing so you make yourself more susceptible to physical attacks gaining vulnerability to Bludgeoning, Piercing and Slashing. As an action, you may dismiss both your resistance and vulnerabilities.

This feature may be used a number of times equal to your Intelligence Modifier per long-rest.

Shooting Star

As an action, your shapeless body resembles that of a shooting star falling from the outer planes you’re sent soaring across the field to your designated location in the blink of an eye upon passing through an object you take 1d4 force damage, however, passing through a creature’s space deals 1d10 force damage to the target and if you’re in an Adapted form you deal an additional 1d10 of that forms damage type. The number of feet you may cover is equal to your level times ten.

This feature may be used once per long-rest.

Self Sustained Form

Due to the Aetherborne being made entirely of magical energy the Aetherborne does not require food or drink, nor is it required to breathe air. Lastly, the Aetherborne does not sleep instead its form separates into dozens and dozens of small globules that seek out magical energy over the course of four hours and draw from these sources.
