Homebrew Dracotaur Species Details
Dracotaurs are among the mightiest of the dragonkin, but they are so rare and so fearsome that most Mharoti believe them to be naught but a legend. The Dragon Empire’s legions occasionally enlist dracotaurs willing to serve the empire, though most of these dragonkin prefer to live nomadic lifestyles on the desert sands. In decades past, some ambitious centaur tribes have traveled south of their native Rothenian Plains to raid villages on the border of the Dragon Empire. These tribes were swiftly intercepted and overpowered by a band of four dracotaurs. Now, these four dracotaurs are the so-called divine warlords of their own centaur herds, galloping freely across the northeastern reaches of the Dragon Empire.
Dragon Kin
The blood of a particular type of dragon runs very strong through the dracotaurs. These dracotaur often boast scales that more closely match those of their dragon ancestor—bright red, green, blue, or white, lustrous black, or gleaming metallic gold, silver, brass, copper, or bronze.
Dracotaur Traits
Your dracotaur character has the following racial traits. Dracotaurs share certain racial traits as a result of their dragonic descent.Ability Score Increase
Your Strength score increases by 2.
Age
Young dracotaurs grow quickly. They walk hours after hatching, attain the size and development of a 10-year-old human child by the age of 3, and reach adulthood by 18. They live to be slightly older than humans to about the age of 150.
Alignment
Dracotaurs are inclined toward chaos. Those who where recruited as part of force working for dragon lords tend to lean more towards evil, while those who stay nomadic are typically neutrally aligned.
Size
Dracotaur stand between 6 and 7 feet tall, with their equine bodies reaching about 4 feet at the withers with a tail that coils around and additional 3 to 7 feet that snakes around and is usually kept tucked in and close to the body unless being used to strike. Your size is Medium.
Speed
Your base walking speed is 40 feet.
Charge
If you move at least 30 feet straight toward a target and then hit it with a melee weapon attack on the same turn, you can immediately follow that attack with a bonus action, making one attack against the target with your claws.
Claws
Your claws are natural melee weapons, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with them, you deal slashing damage equal to 1d4 + your Strength modifier, instead of the slashing damage normal for an unarmed strike.
Tail
Your tail is a thick, muscle packed appendage that can be used to attack, but turning to use it can place you at a risk. As a bonus action, you can make natural melee weapon attack with your tail. If you hit with them, you deal bludgeoning damage equal to 1d6 + your Strength modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike. The target must succeed a strength saving throw (DC 8 + your strength), on a fail they are pushed 5 feet away from you. Until you next turn, melee attacks have advantage on you. You cannot use this feature again until you finish a short or long rest.
Equine Build
You count as one size larger when determining your carrying capacity and the weight you can push or drag.
In addition, any climb that requires hands and feet is especially difficult for you because of your equine legs. When you make such a climb, each foot of movement costs you 4 extra feet, instead of the normal 1 extra foot.
Dragonic scales
Your dragonic parts are tough, scaly skin. When you aren’t wearing armor, your AC is 13 + your Dexterity modifier. You can use your natural armor to determine your AC if the armor you wear would leave you with a lower AC. A shield’s benefits apply as normal while you use your natural armor.
Languages
You can speak, read, and write Common and Dragonic.
