Homebrew Sky Children Species Details
Mask and Wing
The smallest Skykids hover around two feet tall, but the tallest can reach about four. A major identifying feature of a Skykid is the wooden masks that all of them wear, with two painted-on eyes and a gem embedded where the forehead would be. Nobody knows if they have faces behind the mask, and they refuse to remove it to show. They have dark skin, white hair, and tend to wear simple beige clothing when they don’t require flight. However, when they do, their ‘wing’ appears as a brightly-colored cape decorated with white stars. The more stars a Skychild has decorated on their back, the stronger they are considered amongst the tribe.
Skykids aren’t organic, they’re formed from light, and as such they don’t visibly age or bleed. Wounds on a Skykid bleed soft light rather than blood, but they can still be killed just as all other races can.
Many Skychildren punctuate their common speech with honks and chirps, sounds they use to convey emphasis and shade meaning, the same way a human might use facial expressions and gestures.
Friendly and Out-of-touch
Though they live far out of reach of other races, the children of the sky are quick to befriend towards anyone they come across. A bond of friendship is highly valued in their culture, and accepting an offered candle means that you won’t be forgotten. They are a forgiving race, preferring to resolve conflict with words or a game of hide-and-seek.
Violence and war are concepts that baffle most Skykids, as their tribes live so far apart from the world that they rarely get into any sort of disputes. Even when explained to them, they initially find the concept mystifying. As a result, those who have little interaction with others can often make themselves seem foolish by suggesting that both sides just “come to an agreement”.
Spiritual Seekers
Skykids are highly religious, putting their faith in gods known as Elders. There are seven elders in their main pantheon, each tied to a constellation near their tribes.
A Skykid’s view on death is a strange one, for they do not fear it in the slightest. They believe that a Skykid who dies is sent to ‘Orbit’, where they are reborn into the body of a newborn Skychild.
Skykids with strong connections to these elders are also able to see the spirits of previous clerics to these elders, and can even gain wisdom from them.
Greater Purpose
To come of age in a Skyfolk tribe and be given your name, all young Skykids (or Moths, as they call them), must leave the elemental plane of air and journey to the Eye of Eden and gain the wisdom of their fallen ancestors. Moths who are able to make it through Eden are returned to their home and celebrated, given names, new lives, and an official place in the tribe.
To travel through Eden is perilous, but the Moths journeying through do not fear it.

Rise
As a bonus action, expend a star on your wing to send yourself 10 feet into the air. While midair, you have a flying speed of 30 for three times the number of stars you have expended turns. (ex. Expend two stars to fly 20 feet into the air for six turns). The number of stars on your wing directly correlates to your player level. You recover a star each time you end your turn within 5 feet of an ally or an open flame.
Call
Spend one action to charge a loud call in your native language. This breaks stealth, but it reveals to you the location of any allies within a 25 foot radius sphere centered on you.
Candle
Skykids are made of light, and that light can be manifested into the form of a small candle. This candle can be taken out or hidden infinitely, and has all the uses of a normal candle. If an outside force extinguishes it, you must wait 6 rounds before summoning it again.
