Homebrew Alraune Species Details

These beautiful men and women, humanoid from the waist up but veiled by large petals are known as alraune. Vines sprout out of the base of their bulb, which they use to absorb nutrients out of the soil. These vines are strong enough to allow for movement should the alraune uproot him- or herself. Smaller vines grow up out of the bulb, wrapping around their humanoid forms. Alraune often distinguish themselves from one another with various flowers and leaves that they allow to grow out of their upper half.

Their skin comes in a multitude of green shades, although a light brown color is not uncommon in colder seasons when nutrients are scarce.

Alraune's anatomy is far closer to that of a plant than a humanoid's. As a result thereof, their occurrence is limited to biospheres where the climate is temperate, supporting plant growth. While they are largely omnivorous, they are capable of generating energy for themselves through photosynthesis, which releases oxygen in the process. This process is especially useful in times of a food shortage.

Alraune Traits

A race of plant-like flower-people.

Ability Score Increase

Your Wisdom score increases by 2 and your Dexterity score increases by 1.

Plant

Your creature type is considered to be both humanoid and plant, and you can attempt to hide even when you are only lightly obscured by foliage, heavy rain, falling snow, mist, and other natural phenomena. However, you are vulnerable to fire damage.

Floral Rest

Alraune don't need to sleep. Instead, they can root themselves in the favorable soil, remaining semiconscious, for 4 hours a day and absorbing nutrients from the soil. After resting in this way, you gain the same benefit that a human does from 8 hours of sleep. However, if the soil is not favorable you require a full 8 hours of rest to gain the equivalent of a long rest. Rooting yourself requires an action and can only be done on a patch of soil. While in this state your speed becomes 0 and you can uproot yourself as a bonus action.

Silencing Pollen

As an action, you can release a puff of pollen in a 10-foot radius around yourself or in a 20-foot cone, forcing all creatures in range to make a CON saving throw. The DC for this saving throw equals 8 + your WIS modifier + your proficiency bonus. On a failure, they become mute for 1 minute. An affected creature can repeat their saving throw each time they take damage. Once you use your pollen, you can't use it again until after you finish a long rest.

Natural Knowledge

With this racial trait, you are proficient in the Nature skill.

Natural Camouflage

When you make a Dexterity (Stealth) check to hide in heavy foliage, you are considered to be proficient in the Stealth skill if you are not already, and you add double your proficiency bonus to the die roll instead of any proficiency bonus you would normally add.

Vines

Your vines can be extended and retracted for up to 20 feet at will. You can use them to hang from trees while staying hidden, grapple targets at a distance, use and manipulate simple objects and such, however, they are not strong enough to use weapons.

Natural Instinct

Through a combination of body language, gestures, and sounds you can communicate simple ideas with all plants, shrubs, various trees, as well as small or smaller creatures native to forests, woods, meadows, grasslands, deserts, wetlands.

Fungal Possibilities

This 1st level spell allows the user to grow bright red capped mushrooms that give various status effects when consumed and also come with a variety of flavours. The person eating the mushroom roll a 1d10 to determine what the status effect might be.

Effects

1-20  The mushroom's interior is littered with maggots and bugs and tastes awfully like rotten eggs. The consumer is incapacitated for 1 turn. On their next turn, the player must roll a Constitution Saving throw at a disadvantage with a DC 18. On a failed save, roll 1d12 for poison damage.
21-30 The mushroom's interior is hollow and releases a gaseous cloud when bitten into it smells and tastes like the nearest tavern restroom. You lose 3 Hit Points until the next long rest.
31-40  This mushrom exterior is harder and cracker-like. You crack it open to reveal a small slip of paper with writing on it. Roll 7d20 to reveal your lucky numbers (they don't mean anything.) Roll 1d20 with a DC 10. On a successful roll, you will get disadvantage on your next ability check or saving throw. On a failed roll, you have disadvantage until your next long rest. You eat the fortune cookie mushroom. It tastes stale.
41-50 The mushroom's interior when bitten into secretes sludge of a purple hue and has a taste similar to dirt. The consumer loses 10 feet to their walking speed for 1 min.
51-60  The mushrom's interior is just a regular mushroom and tastes like a regular mushroom. It absolutely does nothing. Just a regular boring mushroom. You are slightly disappointed.
61-70 The mushroom's interior is filled with a warm liquid and tastes like a comforting chicken noodle soup and reminds you of simpler times. You gain 1d6+1 temporary hit points until your next short or long rest.
71-80 The mushroom's exterior has a light dusting of powdered sugar and the interior is filled with a light and fluffy creamy custard. You gain advantage on your next roll.
81-85  The mushroom's interior is filled with loaded cheesy fries that are unbelievably crispy. You glance down and your foot uncovered a small coin bag with 1d4 x 10 gold pieces inside.
86-95   The mushroom's interior is a creamy cheesecake topped with a strawberry sauce. You gain a 1d8 inspiration roll to expend on an attack roll, saving throw, or ability check.
96-99 The mushroom's interior is filled with a pasta dish created by the gods themselves. The consumer gains the effects of a true seeing spell for 1 hour. The consumer may cancel the effect on a successful Constitution saving throw of DC 18.
100 This mushroom is completely different than the others. Warm to the touch, you sink your teeth into what tastes exactly like a perfectly cooked medium rare steak. When consumed, you regain the benefits of a long rest.
