Homebrew Vulture Harpy Species Details

Protectors of the Hunted.

These harpy creatures were seen as monsters and hunted to near extinction. Few even exist, you will more than likely never see one. The ones that you do see are probably slaves or used in deathmatches against adventurers. These creatures tend to stay in hiding now due to the hatred they have received from other races. Though that had not always been the case, they once had beautiful kingdoms and wanted to help others, but were met with fear and suspicion. Now their beautiful kingdoms are hidden by magic from the sight of other races, protecting themselves and other hunted or persecuted races. If you do see one of these harpies out in the open they are probably children of harpies that had previously been enslaved or they have been stolen from their homes. Actually if captured these harpies typically go in the market for 10,000 GP or more.

 

Perfect Scavengers

These creatures have developed skills to eat anything and all parts of their prey. If there is anyone you’d want to get stuck within a rough situation its these creatures. They are great at surviving, they’ll even let you get the first pick of food and eat your leftovers. Actually preferring to eat the bones and rotten flesh of other creatures. They can unhinge their jaws to swallow bones whole, they have sharp teeth to tear through tough flesh with ease and long strong tongues that can maneuver around and under flesh to help strip the bones of meat. They can go weeks without food, but are opportunists and will eat or keep anything they can find.

 

Beauty and aviation

These creatures are actually fairly elven like in appearance, from beautiful faces to beautiful bodies….at least till you see their arms and knees… These creatures have winged arms with hands at their joints, actually more like talons. This does not mean these creatures cant hold things or use weapons, they can! However, they cannot put their arms behind their backs, lest they wish to break them. Also starting at their knees they have bird-like talons for legs, these legs are typically the strongest parts of these creatures seeing as they have hollow bones theses taloned legs are fortified by muscles and thick hide plating. The longer you look at these creatures the more avian features you see, they have slightly larger eyes than normal elves. They have feathers on the end of their elf ears. Other than these few places and typical places for facial hair they and soft alluring flesh. Back to the hollow bones just so ya know that means no heavy armor or medium armor when flying movement is slowed.

 

Harpy names

Most harpy races have beautiful names, not these guys. They typically have fantastical beautiful names but for the ones that were enslaved, they can have slave names or basic names, or no names at all and name themselves after words or traits.  Such as…

Enslaved males: names can be anything from Voli-taar to Bacon or Charming

Girls: anything from Vis-ell to Quiet or Beautiful

Ability score increase

These abilities are granted to the Harpy due to their skills, body, and allure. +2 to charisma, +1 wisdom 

Age

The reason these birds typically live so long is because of their ancestry and the monsters they descended from. They are descendants of a mythic beast, that is unknown to outsiders and is a heavily guarded secret by the harpy kind.

Alignment

They are believed to be chaotic and they can be but it really depends.

Size

They have typical sizing between that of a kenku and elves. Their weight will be dependent on their height, but usually on the lighter side.

Speed

Base walking of 30ft, base flying of 50ft

Harpy survival skill

You are proficient in survival.

Talon strike

An unarmed attack, if you hit you deal slashing damage equal to 1d4 + their the dexterity or strength modifier

Winged

You have 50ft flying speed, you cannot fly if wearing medium or heavy armor. You also cannot use two armed weapons in the air.

Languages

They speak Common, Auran,  and Harpy tongue.

Harpy's song

Proficient in performance,  at third level, can cast vicious mockery, at fifth can do charm person.

Resistance to disease

They can eat rotten flesh, of course, they are immune.

Sleep

Harpies need a full 8 hours of rest.
