Homebrew Bogfolk (Frog people) Species Details

Bogfolk are a rare race of amphibian-descended people, having evolved to be approximately the size of a dwarf, capable of walking/talking just like humans do, and able to develop magical skills from every class. People that highly value whimsy and wonder, Bogfolk are most likely to align with chaos and spontaneity, many placing beauty and love above reason. Amphibious people highly value the ecosystem, and feel most lively underwater or on land.

Because they're so uncommon, Bogfolk have great respect for their community of amphibian bretheren. They love the wilderness, and are captivated by fae beauty. Sticky tongues and webbed feet in all, they are most in their element by lakes, marshes, and bayous. City life can quickly become stifling for a frog, however much they may adapt to human lifestyle by wearing their equipment and living similarly.

Unfortunately, their habitats have slowly deteriorated due to colonization/urban development, and many Bogfolk have been forced to adapt. Rare magic and native tongues may be lost if new generations don't work to preserve them.

Bogfolk (Frog people) Traits

As they are frogs, they have many traits that resemble the tiny swamp bois they're descended from. They're fascinated with magic and adore fae things of all kinds.

Heart of the Bayou

Bogfolk have a deep culture centering around the outdoors and swampy life. Befriending fungi, basking in the sun for hours, and writing banjo songs are standard uses of time for them. Because their culture is so centered around love and nature, Bogfolk can choose up to 2 bonus proficiencies from the options below.

+ 3 Persuasion - Your overwhelming good vibes as a literal anthropomorphic frog allow you to befriend people easily

+ 3 Nature - You've picked up some handy botany and herbalist skills you could put to the test

+ 3 Medicine - It's embedded in their amphibious culture to seek creative healing methods in the wild, and shamans are common in villages of Bogfolk

+ 3 Survival - You're very used to living in the wilderness and can survive really well in difficult conditions

Tongue

You can attempt to grapple enemies with your tongue as an action. The enemy must make a dexterity check to avoid being grappled, and a strength check to get out. They have disadvantage on attack rolls until they can escape.

Grapple lasts until your next turn.

Poison Immunity

As your amphibian ancestors have experience with poisons, many having poisonous skin themselves, Bogfolk have evolved to be immune to it.
