Homebrew Carcharin Species Details

Carcharin are the physical manifestation of Sekolah, in both strength and might, contained in an unnatural aberration between shark and humanoid. Few and scattered all across the oceans, these hideous and deadly being are all about attaining strength and superiority.

Oceanic Warriors

Carcharin share a similar physique with many of the strong-bodied races. Often their height exceeds 6 feet. Their muscular bodies weigh at 250 pounds, and are usually adorned with markings of conflict and battle. One defining feature of the Carcharin is their head: gray, smooth skin covers the shark-like snout and body. While its proportions are similar to that of a humanoids, the tar colored eyes and rows of white sharp blades posing as teeth set them apart in a crowd. A large fin is positioned at the center of the lower back to aid in traversing waters. Fingers and toes are connected with fiber to further help in that regard, and the sharp claws keep threats at bay.

Feral Ambition

Many are unaware of their origin. Most agree that their creation can be traced back to the shark deity Sekolah, but details are scarce. Some claim one of his teeth was broken in a colossal fight into thousands of pieces that dispersed across the oceans, each one birthing a Carcharin. Others suggest the deity raised them as an army to guide for another clash. Speculations are ever present in the circles struggling to understand this race.

Sharkfolk, as they're also known, are largely instinct driven. Being kin with some of the deadliest aquatic carnivores, the subconscious drive for survival is ever present. Sekolah's influence: the desire to become and remain the apex predator, to overcome all other adversaries and impose dominance, these values are strongly present in most Carcharin. They are an an ambitious people, constantly chasing ascension in strength and combat, and even sociopolitical scenarios. This desire may resolve to ruthlessness, one that leads to criminal paths. On the other hand, the innate respect held for hierarchy may lead to occupations in law and other similar fields.

Strength in Solidarity

Rarely does a Carcharin conform as a member of society. Due to the nature of their supposed birth, they exist so far apart some do not even know others of their kind exist. Even if two sharkfolk were to meet, territorial instincts would quickly turn to a bloody encounter. While they may work with others occasionally, friendly bonds are scarcely formed between other races, even less so between their own. What drives a Carcharin to thrive within a community is respect: all in superior, equal and even inferior places within the society they are part of are equally respected, due to the natural hierarchy their shark heritage is accustomed to. Even an enemy is going to be met with the corresponding honors, no matter how vile.

Carcharin Names

Due to not being born in any structured society, most Carcharin do not turn to names. Instead, they often adopt nicknames bestowed upon them by any allies or adversaries they may encounter, those often referring to some racial trait.
Example Names: Chompy, Jaws, Finhead, Gillman
