Homebrew Demiogre Species Details

"They may be dumb as rocks and smell like a bog, but I'm damn glad they're on our side."

Bred centuries ago for war, Demiogres are the ideal supersoldiers: strong, tough, and dumb.

Bred for War

Demiogres are often bred and raised in the military, where they are raised and trained in the art of combat from the day they can walk. They possess the brutish strength of their typical ogre siblings, but are slightly shorter in height, and smarter - although by no means great thinkers. They're much leaner than the typical ogre, with bulging muscles replacing thick fat.

"Civil" Uncivilized

Demiogres are better acclimated to civil society than ogres are. They speak common with reasonable ability, and typically understand social conventions and laws, although they still come across as brutish and brash. They avoid the cannibalistic and murderous ways of normal ogres. Demiogres raised in the military often have a tattoo to designate them as "civilized." The standard tattoo is on either the shoulder, bicep, or chest, and looks like an ogre skull with the ogre's service number beneath it. The service number convention is usually a letter marking their unit, then a dash and their individual number.

Discharge

When a demiogre has performed honorably in the military, and has passed a psych evaluation, they may be honorably discharged from service. When discharged, they often take jobs as mercenaries, guards, hunters, and adventurers.

Demiogre Names

Demiogres often have ogre first names, and last names either related to a deed they performed in service, a particular quality of the ogre,  or a blending of their service number (for example, B-47 becomes "Bjorsavan")

Male Demiogre Names: Vuglo, Tarbuk, Mozfel, Flak, Bolg, Sharka

Female Demiogre Names: Medala, Krivol, Shalvak, Mordiirt, Olthra, Tumkra

Demiogre Last Names: Trollslayer, Hammerhead, Rockskull, Gnawer, Bjorsavan (B-47), Atwaanan (A-29), Issix (E-6)

The human commanders who lead demiogres into battle often ride on horseback. This overtime has bred an affinity for horses in many demiogres. While it may be difficult for a demiogre to ride a horse due to their size, they still find much enjoyment in seeing horses, and are more likely to listen to someone on horseback.

Demiogre Traits

Your demiogre has been bred to have certain characteristics

Ability Score Increase

Your Strength and Consitution scores increase by 2, and your Intelligence score decreases by 1.

Adrenaline Rush

Your heart pounds in your chest, and blood and adrenaline surge through your veins. As a bonus action, for 1 minute, your movement speed increases by 5 feet, you can ignore 1 level of exhaustion, and you gain temporary hit points equal to your proficiency bonus + Constitution modifier + character level (minimum of 3). The effect ends if you fall Unconscious. You regain this ability after completing a long rest.

Age

Demiogres generally reach adulthoood at age 14, and live to be around 60 on the rare chance they're not killed prematurely.

Alignment

Demiogres still have an amount of chaotic ogre blood in them, but have been long bred by humans. They're most commonly chaotic neutral, but can be of any alignment.

Size

Demiogres are hulking figures, often standing around 8 or 9 feet tall. Your size is Medium. To set your height and weight randomly, start with rolling a size modifer:

Size modifier: 2d12

Height = 7 feet + your size modifier in inches

Weight in pounds = 260 + (2d4 x your size modifier)

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Darkvision

Thanks to your ogre blood, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Martial Training

You are proficient with two martial weapons of your choice, as well as light armor.

Powerful Build

You count as one size larger when determining your carrying capacity and the weight you can push, drag, or lift.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and Giant. Demiogres often speak a broken form of common, and often refer to themselves in the third person, although this isn't always the case.
