Homebrew Wendigo Species Details

As beings filled with cursed blood that is freezing cold, Wendigos are typically found in places near mountains, taigas, or tundras. Most Wendigos are voracious hunters while awake, but can fall into a long hibernation like state if they are starved out of food. Given that they go unchecked, Wendigos can decimate an ecosystem.

Wendigos, while normally chaotic evil due to their strong sense of hunger, have been documented in the past as being capable of more benevolent emotion depending on the strength of their former humanity or their sheltering circumstances. Children who become Wendigos have also been noted to display more human qualities as part of their behavior. Wendigos are fey by nature which makes them magically attuned.

Wendigo Traits

Wendigos are powerful physical attackers that use magic to manipulate their bodies.

Darkvision

A creature with Darkvision can see in the dark within a specific radius. The creature can see in dim light within the radius as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. The creature can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Heart of Ice

Wendigos are creatures born from freezing to death. When they are reborn, they are born with hearts of ice. This unique trait gives their bodies a natural assimilation to extremely cold environments and damage that would be dealt with freezing cold temperatures.

Ceaseless Hunger

Wendigos can regenerate their wounds by eating living things. Bite attacks made against living creatures can heal Wendigos of damage that wasn't dealt by weapons with silver or fire damage properties. Bite attacks made against undead, elementals, or constructs have no additional effects.

+2 Strength, +1 Charisma, Deception Proficiency

Your strength as a Wendigo is part of your curse. Your charisma is your ability to fool your prey. Deception is the name of the game for a Wendigo and its hunt for a meal.

Fate of the Walker

Wendigos have regenerative abilities that stem from their curse. This regeneration is only negated by attacks or spells that use silver (such as silver bullets, silver blades, etc.), or spells and attacks that burn them. Wounds that aren't dealt with silver or fire heal quickly, over the course of a few hours, however can be healed even faster given the Wendigo is able to eat something. Wounds dealt with silver or fire must be purged by eating before they can be healed.
