Homebrew Azhki Species Details
The Mouse People
Azhki resemble humanoid mice, with large ears, twitchy whiskery noses, and long tails. Their paws are swift and dextrous and their legs are constructed like a mouse's legs, rather than a typical humanoid's. Azhki fur comes in all the colors of existing mice, from black and brown, to pied, to albino.
Faith in the Small Things
Most azhki are ancestor worshipers of a sort. In an azhki home you will almost always find a small replica of a home, sitting in an important and prominent spot in the azhkis' dwelling. These are called Tintiik, or Divine Homes, and are the center for azhki family and religious life. The azhki venerate their personal ancestors and keep volumes of family history, which is in keeping with their general love of scholarship. Azhki also venerate cultural heroes, such as Theed the Kind, a farmer whose crops were so rich, he could feed an entire nation, or Sindip the Brave, who committed great deeds of heroism for the Big Folk and for her own people.
Scholars and Warriors
Azhki are great lovers of knowledge and many make a lifetime's work of just one or two fields. Azhki sages are in high demand when they can be found. Azhki scholars are not jealous of their knowledge and every azhki sage knows at least two colleagues who can help inquirers if they can't provide the needed lore. Azhki also have a strong protective nature and often instinctually defend what is good and kind in the world, especially the small things that get overlooked, like the animals victimized by a city fire, or the fey communities ravaged by wars moving through their sylvan lands.
In the Corners of the World
Azhki, like mice, can be found in very diverse places, rural and urban. An orc or dwarf or other member of the Big Folk might saunter past an azhki farm collective, never knowing they had come near. In cities their communities are found tucked into the wainscoting. Entire azhki inns or apartment houses could be built within and around the spaces that surround constructions made by the Big Folk.
