Homebrew Aranea Species Details
Tell-tale tit,
Your tongue shall be slit,
And all the spiders in the swamp,
Are going to rip you into bits.
- A children's rhyme about feeding decievers to aranea
To be hunted and reviled is the lot of an aranea - they are the monsters that parents warn their children about, the beasts that haunt the swamps, the cautionary tales that people are desperate to avoid. In spite of their appearance, often ranging from frightening to horrific, they are quite peaceful, avoiding conflict and only hunting wild animals.
Queens of the Swamp
Usually delegated to swamps and other unsavoury places to avoid being hunted by people who don't understand them, colonies of aranea are ruled by a Queen, who also usually births the entire colony. They occasionally trade with and may assimilate into humanoid society, but rarely reveal their true race, and aranea adventurers are rare due to their pacifistic society.
Inherently Magical
Aranea, by their nature are magical beings. They tend to prefer illusion, enchantment and charm spells in order to resolve conflict peacefully, only using violence as an absolute last resort, and they will almost never use fire spells.
