Homebrew Cani-kin Species Details

At first glance, you would be hard pressed to distinguish Cani-Kin from their more common human cousins. Aside from their feral features, pronounced canines, and preference for under-cooked meat, they blend in with human society with relative ease. Such subterfuge however tends to be rare and fleeting as Cani-kin can rarely acclimate to the mundane trivialities of human society. They tend to lack the discipline and attention span for most skilled professions in human society, instead preferring lives of adventure on the outskirts of the human world. That is if they choose to venture away from their own kind at all. Those who do choose to live among Humans are often mistrusted and taken for lunatics due to the Cani-kins manic and seemingly erratic nature. Cani-kins heal fast, and live faster many dying long before they reach old age, though the few that do live long enough to die of old age have been know to live well into their 10th and 11th decades. Those that can keep up, and get to know them more often than not find Cani-kin to be amiable, gregarious, and loyal friends, and surprisingly handy in a fight. At any rate, few will disagree that they make better friends than foes.

The Origins of the Cani-kin are not fully known even to the Cani-kin themselves. A semi-nomadic people, much of what the Cani-kin know of themselves is passed down via oral tradition. Thusly, their origin myth is the story of their god, Fenrarious falling in love with a mortal woman. cloaking himself in human flesh, the wolf god courted and ultimately consorted with the woman who would bare him twin siblings, a boy and a girl. Upon discovering the parentage of the twins, the tribal elders resolved to kill the wolf in mans clothing and cull his offspring. Fenraious's mortal for was indeed slain forever more prohibiting him from taking human form. In order to save her children, Fenrarious's consort at his order abandoned them with a pack of wolves to be raised. Though her children would survive, the loss of both them and her lover was too much for her to bare, and she languished into a depression and died after weeks of refusing to eat or drink. Fenrarious's human child were thusly raised by Fenrarious's other children until they came of age. Because they looked more or less human they managed to reenter human society, and continue the linage of Fenrarious's human children known to themselves forever after as the Cani-kin, or family of the wolf.

Rapid Healing

Less enlightened minds will tell you Cani-kin heal so fast to make up for their lack of tactical sophistication. The Cani-kin themselves will tell you its a gift bestowed upon all Cani-kin by their sacred wolf god, Fenrarius. Regardless of the reason, the fact remains that Cani-kin can rapidly shrug off injuries that would leave other races disfigured or maimed.
