Homebrew Cervitaur Species Details

Cervitaurs originate in the deep, ancient, twilit woods of the High Forest. Although the main hub of cervitaur culture is still there, they have branched out and settled other parts of the world. Cervitaurs are agile of mind and body and their connection to the fey and nature make them natural druids. A deep respect for knowledge has led them to create great libraries and universities dedicated to the study of magic.

Nature’s Nerds

Cervitaurs have the upper bodies, down to the waist, of elves, displaying all the elven variety of skin tones and features. Their ears are pointed, some are more deer-like but most are elven. Their faces are wider and rounder than those of elves. They all have any variety of horns one might see on a deer or antelope. Below the waist, they have the bodies of a small deer, with a similar range of coloration — from various shades of chestnut or bay to dappled or even zebra-like striped patterns. Cervitaurs style their hair in a variety of elaborate ways. Their clothing is often elaborate as well. When it's cold, they dress for warmth but in warmer seasons clothing is reduced to decorative and is optional. Body jewelry is very popular.

The upper bodies of cervitaurs are smaller than a human torsos in size, and their lower deer bodies average about 3 feet tall at the withers. Though they are smaller than a human rider mounted on a horse, they can fill similar roles as messengers, outriders, and scouts.

Dreamkin

Cervitaurs have an insatiable curiosity about the interconnectedness of the natural and fey worlds. Cervitaur druids and wizards can most often be found studying dreams and the night sky.

Cervitaur Names

Traditionally, Cervitaur names are whimsical and non-gendered. Many choose a second name later in life to express their connection to home and family.

Cervitaur Traits

Your cervitaur character has the following racial traits. These traits are also suitable for the cervitaurs of other worlds where there are cervitaurs of fey origin. These cervitaurs are smaller than the non-fey cervitaurs that roam in some realms.

Ability Score Increase

Your Intelligence score increases by 2, and your Wisdom score increases by 1.

Age

Cervitaurs mature at about the same rate as humans but it is said their proximity to the feywild slows their aging. They live up to 200 years.

Alignment

Cervitaurs are inclined toward neutrality.

Size

Cervitaurs stand between 5 and 6 feet tall, with their deer bodies reaching about 3 feet at the withers. Your size is Medium.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 40 feet.

Fey

Your creature type is fey, rather than humanoid.

Charge

If you move at least 30 feet straight toward a target and then hit it with a melee weapon attack on the same turn, you can immediately follow that attack with a bonus action, making one attack against the target with your hooves.

Hooves

Your hooves are natural melee weapons, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with them, you deal bludgeoning damage equal to 1d4 + your Strength modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.

Cervid Build

You count as one size larger when determining your carrying capacity and the weight you can push or drag.

In addition, any climb that requires hands and feet is especially difficult for you because of your equine legs. When you make such a climb, each foot of movement costs you 4 extra feet, instead of the normal 1 extra foot.

Survivor

You have proficiency in one of the following skills of your choice: Animal Handling, Medicine, Nature, or Survival.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and Sylvan.
