Homebrew Cannin Species Details

AGE: Cannin traditionally live only to “20-30” but the way they age is 1 year for every 7 human years, so realistically they can live up to 210 years but will only consider themselves to be 30 in human years.

SIZE: While Cannin size varies on Sub-Race, they are normally between 3.5’—6.5’ tall when standing on two legs.

MOVEMENT: Cannin have a base movement speed of 35ft on two feet, 70ft on all four (see Racial Features for “Run on All Fours”)

APPEARANCE: Cannin traditionally follow a baseline breed look but specific to the District they are born into, resembling very much how dogs look in our world. However, there are those who are Mix-Breeds or MUTTS considered lesser by the high-class lineages that can be a combo of two different breeds and will look as such.

LANGUAGE: All Cannin are raised knowing Common, but many also know CANISE (the dog language — which can communicate with wolves, werewolves, hounds, and foxes) as well.

RELIGION: Most Cannin are somewhat Agnostic, believing that only what they see, smell, hear, and eat are what’s to be trusted and believed in. However, the higher class families do believe in the Cannin God— BORKUS, who very much resembles a human face and two hands: one that is empty signifying the difficult possibilities of life, and the other which holds a treat showing that with respect comes reward. It’s not uncommon for some zealous Borkus worshiping Cannin to regard Humans with far more respect and reverence than deserved, as they believe they are the manifestations of BORKUS on Earth.

However, BORKUS, does have an evil twin — WHIMPRELL — who resembles a hooded version of BORKUS, which represents the danger of unseen eyes, their one hand is closed and the other wields a leash which represents the things one desires but must become servants to evil to obtain. Many worshipers believe Whimprell is the cause of all sadness and destruction in Puppatia.

There are rumors that a small group of Whimperell Worshipers known as The Silver Paw are meeting somewhere in the North to worship this dark-god, and are actually attempting to contact WHIMPRELL to bring it’s evil desires to life on Puppatia...

Cannin Traits

As dog humanoids their racial traits are very much dog-like and inspired.

Supreme Sniff

Once per short rest, Cannin have the ability to track one specific creature or object scent for up to 100 miles as long as the scent is present at time of Supreme Sniff. Once Supreme Sniff has been activated, the Cannin must roll a d100 to see how well they’ve gained the scent trail, and the result is the milage they are able to track said creature or scent. If the creature has passed through a large body of water, roll d100 with disadvantage. At Level 5, increase to 2d100 .

Uncontrollable Tail

Due to the fact that all Cannin likely have a tail, the tail is prone to giving them away in moments of deception, and stealth. When a Cannin attempts to lie, deceive, be intimidating or stealthy - their tail has the opportunity to give them away.
At level 1: Deception, Stealth, and Intimidation checks - are -1d4

At level 5: As you get wiser and stronger. Deception, Stealth, and Intimidation checks - are -1d2

At level 7: You have full control of your tail and gain no disadvantage to rolls because of it.

Good Dog!

Once per long rest, Cannin can channel their inner animal spirit to gain advantage on Attack rolls this turn.

Inspiring Howl

At Level 2, all Cannin gain the ability to HOWL a loud and inspiring howl. Once per long rest, Inspiring Howl gives all allies within ear-shot 1d6 Inspiration to be used ONCE on any ATK rolls or Checks for 1 hour.

At Level 5, Inspiring Howl is improved to 1d6 on ATK roll/Checks + 1d4 to Damage.

At Level 8, Inspiring Howl is improved to 2d6 on ATK roll/Checks + 1d6 to Damage.

At Level 10, Inspiring Howl gives allies within earshot 2d6 to ATK roll/Checks + 2d6 to Damage.

Run on All Fours

Cannin have the ability to move on all fours when not encumbered by a weapon in their hands.
This gives double movement speed in combat, and can be used as a bonus action as long as they are not holding a weapon. If they are holding a weapon, “Run on All Fours” must be used as an ACTION.
