Homebrew Aasimar/Stellari Species Details

Aasimar are a people group said to have been touched by a spirit upon birth. These ethereal children grow up with a special connection to the spirits. In very rare cases, this transformation occurs after birth, although none can explain how or why. Aasimar are similar in appearance to their birth parents, yet their other-worldly appearance is undeniable and typically manifests through pale or white skin and a desaturated hair color (white, gray, black).

Throughout history, many cultures have placed some level of importance on the Aasimar. In Dormír they're called Ruh and act as a link between the tribes of Dormír and the spirits. Conversely, on the island of Rotsvarden they are called Onderyang, or harbingers of doom, and are exiled or killed in the name of their god. Due to their rarity, no distinctive Aasimar culture exists, coupled with their inability to reproduce, the population of Aasimars seems out of the control of inhabitants of the physical world.

Aasimar speak the language of their birth culture, with one exceedingly unique caveat. Aasimars possess the ability to communicate with spirits directly through a supernatural ability to understand complex raw emotions. This language is not limited to spirits, as Aasimars exhibit incredible displays of empathy to all people.

A group of Aasimars known as the Stellari exist in Vondar. The Stellari record all Aasimar born in Vondar with a census, and at age 13, the young Aasimars are inducted into the ancient Stellari organization.  It's in this organization, that Aasimars learn to keep time by the stars rather than moon. They keep detailed star charts from which they derive extremely accurate calendars and maps. More importantly, the Stellari hone their interactions with the spirits and provide governance to the people of Vondar.

Although the greater purpose of these mysterious people is still largely unknown, Aasimar find purpose in helping others, driven by their enhanced sense of empathy. In recent  years, the spiritual conflict in Vondar has driven many former Stellari to flee their country. Now more than ever, the Aasimar seem to be needed.
