Homebrew Cyborg Species Details

“Pierce was built by design, while you were built by accident,” Lakashtai said. “The soul is what matters, not the shape of the vessel.”

“What makes you think he has a soul?” Gerrion said.

“What makes you think you do?”

—Keith Baker, The Shattered Land

The warforged were built to fight in the Last War. While the first warforged were mindless automatons, House Cannith devoted vast resources to improving these steel soldiers. An unexpected breakthrough produced sapient soldiers, giving rise to what some have only grudgingly accepted as a new species. Warforged are made from wood and metal, but they can feel pain and emotion. Built as weapons, they must now find a purpose beyond war. A warforged can be a steadfast ally, a cold-hearted killer, or a visionary in search of meaning.

Part metal part flesh

Cyborgs  are formed from a blend of organic and inorganic materials. Unlike the warforged they were meant to emulate, they are a mix between living flesh and mechanical contraptions. Due to the flesh parts they are typically weaker as they still have keep their living parts alive. Not only that but the process of making one involves the memory wipe of the victim chosen to undergo the process, leaving them a blank canvas. the top layer of their body often looking like the race they once were.

The cyborg were built to try to emulate the warforged and so are meant to be used for fighting but can also be used for espionage. For most of their existence, cyborgs had a clearly defined function, designated to them by their maker and were as such made to train in that area. They were originally built by the dwarves and the technology is extremly dangerous and volatile. In attempts to recreate the worforged, the cyborg was made. Parts of the being were swapped out for mechanical counter parts. They are a secret known to the few dwavern leadership.

The typical cyborgs shows little emotion unless trying to deceive those around them. Many cyborgs embrace a concrete purpose — such as protecting allies, completing a contract, or exploring a land — and embrace this task as they once did war. However, there are cyborgs who go rogue, the mind wipe process not completely working and leaving fragments of their past hidden deep within their mind.. Most cyborg have no interest in religion, but some embrace faith and mysticism, seeking higher purpose and deeper meaning.

The typical cyborg have the sex from their previous life.

The more a warforged develops its individuality, the more likely it is to modify its body, seeking out an artificer to customize the look of its face, limbs, and plating.
