Homebrew Beheaded Species Details

Extremely rare yet extremely long living, the Beheaded are merely small masses of matter and flesh with the ability to latch themselves onto the corpses of headless humanoids and use the body like their own. While attached to a body, the empty space where the head would be is filled with a ball of flame and smoke, with a single point in the center resembling an eye. These creatures are virtually immortal, being able to hop from body to body as each is destroyed, but without a host they are helpless.

Beheaded Traits

Your unnatural form gives you the following traits shared by all beheaded.

Ability Score Increase

Your charisma score increases by 2.

Age

Beheaded are nearly immortal, not capable of dying of old age. The bodies they bond themselves to are also decently preserved, so they do not quickly rot and decay. However, if a Beheaded is bonded to a single host for long enough, the trauma of being severed from that host can completely wipe the creature's memory.

Alignment

The power virtual immortality that the Beheaded hold often leads to them having arrogant or selfish tendencies. Due to this, many of them lean towards chaotic alignments, with many being neutral.

Homunculic Form

Your true body is only a small parasite bonded to a separate host. During a long rest, you may attach yourself to a new host if you are not attached to one already. The host must be a nonliving humanoid body without a head. Construct bodies will not work for this process, and if you bond to a body with construct-like pieces, such as prosthetic limbs, these pieces cannot be controlled by you. However, you do gain control over more exotic limbs the host had in life, such as wings, tails, or fins, and you gain any climbing, flying, or swimming speeds the host had in life.

Additionally, you can temporarily eject yourself from the host and move up to 10ft away from it. While you do this, the host is completely stationary and a 3 inch thick cord connects you to it. If this cord is broken, your connection to the host is severed and you must either reattach yourself to it or find a new host.

If you are brought to 0 hp or your body is destroyed, the connection to this host is forcibly severed, causing you to have to find a new host to inhabit. The new host must follow the rules given above and when bonded can be used as if it were your body.

Headless

Due to the fact that you, in fact, do not have a head, you do not need to eat, drink, or breathe to survive. However, the unfortunate side effect for this is that no mouth means no speaking. A Beheaded's communication is limited to gestures, signs, writing, or more exotic forms. Some Beheaded learn to cast spells with the verbal component through convincing others to say the word for them, or even just banging really loudly.

More talented or elderly beheaded learn some form of telepathy in order to communicate with other creatures without much trouble.
