Homebrew Air Genadrin (Genasi + Eladrin) Species Details

It can be very difficult to tell whether your Elven comrade has Genasi heritage, as the elves already possess the eldritch features that mark them apart from other, more mundane races. Moon elves and air genasi, for example, share nearly identical colourations and features; if not for traits such as autonomously moving hair or foggy breath you might never even know your companion could hold their breath indefinitely or float above the treetops. 

Like other Genasi-Elven mixtures, an Air Genadrin possess some or all of the racial traits of their parents. It can depend on the circumstances of the parents or situation, and each Air Genadrin is as varied in personality as their traits. One Genadrin could be as volatile and changeable as their Genasi father while another of the same family could possess the even and curious temperament of their moon elf mother. Some Genadrin inherit the cultural appreciation and extroverted nature of their moon elf heritage while others prefer to retreat into the solitary, haughty and wary life of an Air Genasi. However, both races have an intense appreciation for their cultural history which is inherited by their children. 

All Air Genadrin inherit at least one visual trait from their Genasi parent, whether it be the scalp crystals or skin patterns, an echo-y voice or foggy breath, or even hair tousled by an invisible wind. 

As Children of the Forgotten, all Air Genadrin can speak, read, and write Common, Primordial, and Elvish. 

The neutral alignment of the Genasi side tends to be balanced out by the good intentions of the Moon Eladrin. 

An Air Genadrin, if raised for enough time by its eladrin parent, possesses the same Weapon Proficiency as an eladrin elf. 

Air Genadrin (Genasi + Eladrin) Traits

Your elf character has a variety of natural abilities, the result of thousands of years of elven refinement. They also inherit the elemental abilities of their genasi parent, including their specific incantations and get the chance of either the Intelligence or Constitution ability boost.

Mingle with the Wind

You can cast the levitate spell once with this trait, requiring no material components, and you regain the ability to cast it this way when you finish a long rest. Constitution is your spellcasting ability for this spell.

Unending Breath

You can hold your breath indefinitely while you’re not incapacitated.

Ability Score Increase

Your Dexterity score increases by 2.

Depending on the trait inherited, your Intelligence or Constitution score increases by 1. 

Age

Although elves reach physical maturity at about the same age as humans, the elven understanding of adulthood goes beyond physical growth to encompass worldly experience. An elf typically claims adulthood and an adult name around the age of 100 and can live to be 750 years old. This longevity is not affected by the genasi parent and in rare cases is even heightened, leaving the offspring to live for potentially a thousand years. 

Alignment

The neutrality of the genasi is tempered by the gentle chaos of the elves, leaving most Air Genadrin to possess a chaotic good or lawful neutral nature. 

Size

Air Genadrin range from under 5 to over 6 feet tall and have slender builds. Your size is Medium.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Darkvision

Accustomed to twilit forests and the night sky, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Keen Senses

You have proficiency in the Perception skill.

Fey Ancestry

You have advantage on saving throws against being charmed, and magic can’t put you to sleep.

Trance

Elves don’t need to sleep. Instead, they meditate deeply, remaining semiconscious, for 4 hours a day. (The Common word for such meditation is “trance.”) While meditating, you can dream after a fashion; such dreams are actually mental exercises that have become reflexive through years of practice. After resting in this way, you gain the same benefit that a human does from 8 hours of sleep.

Because of their Elven ancestry, Air Genadrin also possess this ability.
