Homebrew Wachsbir (Raccoon Folk) Species Details
A caravan of those walking Raccoons have just moved into the area outside the old town, and already the reports of thievery are ripe! I want twenty men in there and moving them on tonight! We can't abide our citizens misplacing their trust in those sticky fingered vermin...
Raccoon Folk, known amongst themselves as Wachsbir, are a secretive race that likes to roam at night. Those who roam in the day are a more brave and adventurous type of their Kin. They are quick-witted and cautious, not to mention more than a little sticky fingered, and as a result, thrive in the back alleys and gloomy taverns of the less honest side of the world.
Physical Description
Wachsbir are humanoid-like raccoons, walking on either two or four legs depending on the situation. They usually grow to be about 3 feet tall with the tallest ever recorded being 4'5 tall. It is said that any Raccoon Folk born with more than 5 rings on their tail will become a great and powerful leader who leads their people to new lands. Or perhaps, they will be a great villain that will only cause pain and suffering to those around them. Wachsbir come in a variety of colors, such as black and grey, auburn and dark magenta, and red and brown being a few types. These critters reach maturity at the age of 15 and live to be 80 years old. The healthiest and most fit Wachsbir live to be 100 years old.
History
The first Wachsbir supposedly was originally created when a Raccoon was the subject of an Alchemist's failed experiment. The concoction given to it gave said Raccoon human-level intelligence and altered physiology, which allowed it to escape into the wild’s and father an entire species after it bred with a wild Raccoon. After many generations, Wachsbir fully came into existence, surviving on their wits and cunning, eventually forming a large community known as Molfuul. Being a young race, the Wachsbir travel far and wide to experience and find their place in the world, unfortunately, they are well known to most back ally dealers and crooks due to their habit of getting themselves into trouble.
Society
Wachsbir are a very secretive and strange race. They barely trust outsiders but if they do they will show them nothing but affection and gifts, usually food. Wachsbir usually follow the ways of their current Elders or King such as whether they should steal from small villages to survive or to grow their own food and make their own supplies.
Wachsbir are typically seen as shady little creatures because most Racoon Folk use their size to their advantage by pickpocketing, tricking clueless people into giving them their money, or just straight up robbing people. However, when they are in a city that is under their complete control, Racoon Folk tend to be extremely kind, as long as you don't look suspicious because somehow they can just tell if you're up to something.
If you do for some reason hurt or do something bad to a Wachsbir and you let them live, they will make sure you are hunted down by whatever they can get their hands on or do themselves. Similarly, if you show benevolence to a Wachsbir, they will see you as a potential friend and will treat you with generosity and welcome you into the warmth of their homes.
